Im about to go get groceries on my bike in December. Hopefully i dont get hit by a car on my way. Id love if there was proper infrastructure that protects me from distracted drivers. The only thing that would stop me is if there is 6+inches of snow. Id have to wait forever for bike lanes to be plowed vs car lanes that get plowed within hours.
If there was a perfect spot for high density housing. This is it. If they enforce some sort of parking requirement, there will be less housing units and those units will cost more to build and rent. There is access to train and bus stations within minute walking.
Im all for density! We desperately need it. But why are we creating density at the edges of the city? Where literally everyone will need a car to get everywhere. We need to put the density closer to amenities and transit hubs like downtown and the south end commercial areas.
So reducing the speed reduces fatal collisions. That is the point. Eliminating collisions is the goal but it’s impossible to eliminate. So we should make those mistakes less catastrophic.
Do you have evidence of this? I think the intent is to reduce speed of vehicles. There is a strong correlation between the severity of accidents and the speed of vehicles.
These people love anecdotal evidence “i don't see them being used”. Well since they put this in ive used them every time i need to ride near this area. Every other road around this is a death trap for cyclists.
Or… crazy idea. Drive with caution when it is snowing. I dont think the barriers are “dangerous” the driver isn’t getting injured if they hit a barrier.
I support it as long as there is also a grocery store. People in the area need it and it would be walkable to thousands of people. People complaining about traffic are just Nimbys. It will be fine. They would rather see hundreds of kilometres of suburban sprawl than a little area of dense housing. I support this. But they need to bring this density to downtown. Not just the edges of town.
A neighbourhood designed pre car is the perfect place for density. Tight grid streets are great for other forms of transportation. And would help eliminate the need for multiple car households.
Yeah id love to have it next door. If i didn’t like to look at it, i wouldn’t but i wouldn’t be too ignorant to understand that she is bringing only good things to our community. Id probably bring her coffee and baked good regularly. I bet she has some heartwarming stories.
