Lot's of folk never believed in having this plaza in the first place. Some feel the Pavilion or GFL could have housed these events.Either way, you have a new, barely used structure, surrounded by 30-40 boarded up houses.People remain living on the street. And the homeless shelter does not have enough beds....but hey...City planning spends cents-doesn't make sense.
The City...should repossess all the boarded up houses downtown, that are delinquent in their tax payment. Then have a company tear them all down....auction off the properties to persons wishing to build, or build themselves some affordable housing. This is our city too, and we do not wish to continue seeing the delipidated buildings enroute to the downtown. No wonder we have squatters, fires, drug use, and sex workers...in the downtown area. No one cares enough to fix up the area...however, the City spends thousands more dollars on proposals to increase revenue from Visitors attending the waterfront [for example], downtown parks, etc.How about fixing and paying attention to the revenue lost by having the downtown so rundown?
We really need a safe injection site for downtown, complete with counselling should they be interested.I know alot of folks disagree, however should they step on one of those needles, they may see the need for safety.
Just saying....Doug Fords wage should be capped at 1%...instead, he gave himself and his constituents a 19% raise and many weeks holidays. How did this Conservative person even get a job? I know I never voted for him.
Thank you for your commitment to wildlife....especially since this is not something noted that you would usually do.Sincerely, Fern YoungMember Canadian Wildlife OrganizationMember/Volunteer Ducks Unlimited Canada
I'm sure she knows what she's doing as she said she also studied. She is being labeled because of her age.The drug and drunk crazed individuals holding a valid license or not having one at all, are more of a threat.
I don't mind shoveling and taking care of the snow that accumulates in my driveway. What I DO NOT agree with, is having the city put the snow from the streets into my driveway. They have trucks they can put the snow into when they cut down the banks, [snow removal] so maybe they should invest in some plows that have snow throwers and pick up and put the snow into trucks. If they did that all the time, they would not have to spend our dollars on snowbank cutters and snow removal.
The cost of rent, and property taxes has escalated beyond one's means. This is partially the reason for homelessness. Curb that and you would have "more affordable" housing versus building more apartments, dwellings. Why can't you see what is really before you?
I have done my research. Having familial issues regarding this topic, I know firsthand what works and what doesn't.Although drug use is a "thing", keeping people safe during using and keeping others safe during the aftermath, is most important and not just concerning. How about you do more research?
It doesn't help when the Government caps our wages, and prices and taxes keep rising.I now struggle to pay the taxes and insurance...even with working some overtime. The overtime is to pay the taxes and insurance leaving me with hardly anytime to enjoy the home.Apartment life is not for me...and I would not be able to afford some of those pricy places anyways.
Homelessness, Drug addiction, negligent landlords, Crime, boarded up houses that do not bring in adequate revenue [taxes], are all a problem. So is spending money on mid city centers, riverfront proposals, and the huge large raise Ford just gave to his own MPs before taking 19 weeks off for the Summer. [yes, you read that right].Renting one or 2 bedroom places for 800-900 dollars is very hard to find, especially if you have a family.Get real about real issues. Where are the incentives to assist someone with housing and make returning to school a prerequisite? We need Help with Education costs, child care, and counselling instead of waiting for persons to become homeless, broke, uneducated, and turning to crime or drugs to COPE.And we certainly do not need negative comments, ridiculing, labelling, and more name calling or other types of abuse.
Tear them all down. Those places cannot and should not be saved. Anyone who buys them would have to tear them down anyways as nothing that I see is up to code. From East street to Tancred along Wellington, there are 30 boarded up properties and that is only on the South side of the street.Get rid of the mess, and quit prolonging the inevitable.
That is a very small space on the 1st floor only-for 7 apartments., which held a small bar, dance floor and pool table area. The rooms upstairs are also small-so did they fix up the rooms upstairs? What will be up there?I think there is adequate parking for at least 10 vehicles.
