Cutten Fields shares concerns about proposed student housing

I understand that it is a private developer. I outlined what the University short term housing plans to show that there are plans without the private sector. There is already a private multi story student new build that is west of Edinburgh that was initially approved as public housing before being switched to student only by the developer. So there is even more availability without this ten storey monster near the Cutten Club.

This project is not mentioned in the University’s short term plan for housing so why is the significantly increased scale required? I’m assuming the larger size provides greater profit to the developer, but why there? I’m not a Cutten Club member either, just not seeing the need when there are other parcels of land in the University area that have yet to be developed. I would be okay with the initial plan impact. Here is what is planned as Key Near-Term Future Building Sites78 College Ave. W & McGilvray St.: A new first-year student residence is proposed for this site, with early site preparation starting March 2026, aiming to house up to 1,500 students.Gordon St. & College Ave. W (Graduate Residence): A proposed 8-storey residence with 280 studio units, targeting graduate and upper-year students.Wellington Woods West/East: Redevelopment to include over 2,200 beds, featuring mixed housing, studios, and townhomes.

That kind of thinking might turn the arboretum into housing as well.

I’m sure that paramedics and their passengers will really appreciate the speed cushions on Delhi from Speedvale to Eramosa…right to the hospital.
