Single complaint hits the brakes on 14 years of charitable bike repairs

There have been a number of articles written about Mary, and her father when he was fixing bikes, celebrating them! She knows her regulars by name and has seen countless children grow from their first bike onto their adult bike. And, every penny goes to charity. Choose your battles, please, By-law!!! Surely there are much more pressing issues than a generous senior doing so very much good slightly nudging some standards in the process. Give her back her $1900 and head Downtown!!!

Mr. Donaldson, I always enjoy your articles and you clearly have a keen interest in City Council. Would you consider putting your name forward for the position? Please?

Congratulations....but, imagine the more positive impact if 40 individuals each won a million dollars!

At whatever level, long term care, assisted living, life lease, the Elliott is the most sought after senior facility in Guelph so I found this article really sad to read. Curious that one of the cutbacks is to their fundraising? As a non-profit with the coffers are running low, wouldn't you ramp up the fundraising? I've visited a number of people there over the years and found the faculty and care outstanding! I hope the fundraising successfully continues to support this amazing senior facility!

Doesn't the look on Marks face in that photo suggest he's a good communicator?!?!?! I shook my head reading this article. Hire someone NOW though you likely won't be mayor much longer Cam...hire some NOW though Marks constituents choose otherwise... Hire someone NOW why??? Wow... Curious: what happens to the position when another Mayor is elected??? Are we stuck with him???

Yay that another place for un-housed people is available but a really big BOO, thumbs down and very sad that so many senior care spaces have disappeared! Norfolk Manor and the one on Metcalfe... please don't let seniors fall through the cracks! They've worked hard and deserve every bit of support we can give! Mr. Ing, shame on you!!!

Doesn't UoG also own the land the Village by the Arbouretum (VBA) is on? I agree with the other comments: cut the fat!

I enjoy a good fireworks display; honestly, who doesn't? That said, much of nature does not. Not only dogs (their reactions are what we humans see) , but wildlife. The worst time is the May long weekend when so many baby beings are in the nest or dens, just learning to fledge or leave the den when the world around them explodes over and over for some hours. At the worst possible time for them. A lot of dogs react with panic but we have no measure of how much wildlife is adversely affected by our brief moments of "wow" ! I do support the City/Public firework displays...with consideration to nature, please, so not the May long weekend,As for private fireworks, for umpteen years we've been woken up multiple times through umpteen nights around fireworks allowed holidays to inconsiderate assholes setting them off well through many nights. For many neighborhoods, that's a big issue. Hard to teach manners and consideration...harder still to enforce them. Try harder, please!

Dear Lord, whoever did that is capable of anything. There is no fine big enough...put them into the general population of a tough prison and let justice prevail!

I know there's always an investigation to determine the cause; I so wish those causes were broadcasted loud and clear so we might become more aware of hidden hazards in our own homes! I'm happy to know no-one was hurt in these latest fires...but still wonder what the causes were of the 2 fatal fires earlier this year. First responders, thank you for your service!

A Realtor friend pulled up the listing and required schedules for me. The property was tenant occupied with no showing until an offer was accepted. Also a redacted blank offer form with lots of things deleted including the word "vacant" before possession. No title recourse, no warranties...even the city and township were stroked out! The one and only photo was an exterior shot. RED FLAGS, oh my! A lot of people competed for the house; I'll bet they're relieved they "lost" out on this nightmare!Seems to me the only thing a lawyer could advise a client is DON'T buy it! Wonder when in the process the lawyer was consulted...And, I wonder if the tenants then were the 'squatters' now...Caveat emptor, Buyer beware. Such a sad story; I hope it ends well.

Isn't that deficit just about the likely salary for the new communication advisor to the mayor??!!??

I feel for any businesses affected by construction and think they should at least be property tax exempt for the duration! And, I do think when the construction is finally done it should open as access from Wellington and Surrey with only right hand turns allowed onto Wellington when leaving. Folks turning left onto Wellington cause so many delays and some accidents.

I agree. Where the heck did that 5 million estimate come from??? I did a walk about the green house and it is sad to see such a beautiful building in such a sad state of... demolition by neglect...isn't that's what it's called? Wasn't there a maintenance fund for the greenhouse set up decades ago? So sad that (wrecking) ball was dropped. I hope someone with deep pockets steps up and buys the greenhouse for a buck and makes it a destination once again.

As I recall, most if not all parks, were off leash with restricted hours...7 to 9 am I believe was the morning time. That make so much sense. The parks are hardly used by anyone that early except for dog owners needing to have healthy play time with their and other dogs. Unfortunately, there are too many untrained dogs owned by untrained people who spoil it for the good dogs and owners. Fine them.

Try installing motion activated fixtures. If a light is on all the time, not only is it wasteful, the critters get used to it so no more deterrent! Works well for the human creepers looking for an easy hit as well!

So sad you feel that way! Perhaps you haven't seen the greenhouse let alone had the pleasure of being inside it. I wish the University would hit the pause button and offer the structure for free to someone with pockets deep enough to want to move and restore it.
