Mayor's expense report sparks calls for more transparency

Swiping the wrong card by accident occasionally is understandable. $16k over 2 years is a deliberate pattern of behavior.I would really like to see the itemized list of what he was putting the card. That will tell the real story of whether this was accidental or malpractice.

I read the whole report. Even Chirico's version of events makes him sound like an entitled brat. Instead of just not using the corporate card for personal items, his attitude is "some faceless payroll clerk can spend their time reconciling my mess of an expense report because i can't be bothered". Again, that is the BEST version of events.

Council needs to understand that the general public doesn't actually care about where he technically broke the code of conduct. The fact is someone in his position should have known better. He can obfuscate all he wants about "transparency" or "misunderstanding" or whatever. It all reads as disingenuous. The average person would have known to obviously not do what he did. That is the crux of it. So, he is either corrupt (if he was intentional and was trying to get away with it) or stupid (if he thought this was an appropriate use of the card). Those are the only 2 options.

I wish the union was just honest. These are decent jobs for low skilled workers and are worth keeping. Nothing wrong with that being the primary driver. Save us the song and dance about protecting the public from the evils of alcohol.

Did she really drop the woman card in this? She is a parachute candidate. Good riddance.

You don't need an expensive independent investigation to know his actions were either corrupt (because he thought he would get away with it) or stupid (because he thought it was appropriate use of the corporate card). Those are the only two options and he should probably resign either way.

Too bad they aren't municipal. They could just ask the city for 12%+ and 7%+ in back-to-back years. Problem solved, no need for hard choices.

The meal double dipping is the only story. It happens all the time with businesses that offer per diems. Dishonest but not scandalous. 220-432 a night for hotels in Ottawa during a conference is a non-story.

"reports of speeding". The important question is, does that mean they are going 60 and people think that is too fast? or are they going 85? if it's the latter, it is an enforcement issue, not a signage issue.

this is so embarrassing.

She's not a member of this community, That should be the bare minimum for nomination for all the parties. If you can't get a good local candidate, don't run one.

Just stop development on the lake. Congrats to those of you who got there first. Enjoy your tax bill or move. But the lake is a community resource and needs to be protected at the cost of development. no one "needs" a home on the lake. there are plenty of places to build.

Zero % until you show a concrete plan for body cams, This is embarrassing. NBPD acts like they are the first police force to get cameras and there are all these questions to be answered. there aren't. They just don't want them.

what they are glossing over in this is that they also inherited 2 properties. the primary residence is passed on tax free and the cottage will have capital gains assessed. As is the norm when estates are being settled, the tax owing was taken out of the RRSP (which have never been taxed to this point). I get they are grieving, but this is totally normal and fair.

Great timing for Burton's retirement.

Using international stats to talk about the problem in Ontario is a lie by omission. It is no doubt still a real problem in Ontario, but using the stat "one killed every 10min", is catastrophizing and unhelpful.

Who's idea was this? What benefit are they for? They will either become shelter for the homeless or they will provide sightline cover while someone saws off your bike lock.

Northern FryThe LTB is there to enforce and interpret the legislation. They don't actually make the rules. That is the Residential Tenancies Act and it is the responsibility of the of our MPPs. If anything, the LTB is supremely underfunded and cannot handle the volume of cases before it. And that only serves to help both bad tenants and bad landlords.

The overwhelming majority of that 69 million ARE front line workers. it isn't 1996 anymore. 100k isn't some exorbitant salary for an educated professional.

Agreed. PK. This screams hit job to distract from Chirico's scandal.
