New signalized pedestrian crossings are now in operation

Why should motorists take precedence over pedestrians? We pay taxes, we deserve to use our streets safely. Why should we be forced to walk down to a set of lights and then back up the street to reach our destination? Why should we be inconvenienced but not you? Are cars more superior?

Living in Current River, Boulevard is my go to place for physical activity whether it's a walk or a ride around the lake. I've never once felt unsafe, until now. My husband insists he'll be walking and riding with me from now on, and I'm grateful. However, it angers me that women are forced to walk in groups or with a man in order to feel safe in broad daylight. It's bad enough I no longer feel comfortable cycling alone past the encampment by the dam, now Boulevard is off limits. I thought our parks were supposed to be for ALL residents!

Brian Hamilton, on Facebook, told someone to just write a letter to City Council or call Councillors to express their concerns. Yeah, right, like ANY of them listen to their constituents. They ALL need to go this coming election. We received millions in funding for emergency shelters like another commenter said. WHY are we designating any encampments?

The City set up the Muslim Association's proposal to fail. What did the City think would happen? With all the history surrounding Junot Park, the City should have anticipated the community's reaction. As for another location...the Central Avenue lands would be an ideal location for the Association's development proposal.

If there is to be "a significant buffer" between the development and the existing residential properties as Joel DePeuter states, then it should have been reflected in the site sketch included in the Notice of Application that was posted AND sent to property owners within 120 metres of the proposed development. Why would they ask for our comments on that site sketch if they knew it didn't accurately reflect what was being built?

In reading and following the City's reports on the Housing Accelerator Fund, it was clear from the beginning that the majority of funding was going to build market-rate apartments, not to non-profits for truly affordable units. Developers come out ahead, doubly so since the City is also selling off our parkland. Pristine greenfield sites are a developer's preferred building location. Meanwhile the parcels in areas that need revitalization decay further, along with the surrounding neighbourhoods.

Protecting property values have nothing to do with not downsizing. Homes are more than a roof over your head, they hold memories and familiarity, and give a sense of safety, all of which are vital as a person ages. PLUS, it's cheaper to stay in your house than pay $2000 plus utilities, and parking for aome "luxury" 1 bedroom apartment.

Glad they got him but I wish they would provide more details like where was he caught committing a break and enter? What neighbourhood? What's his name? Is he local? Does he have a fixed address? The public deserves to know more as it's our safety and/or our perception of safety that's being impacted by these events.
