LETTER: Mayor's reckless comments are disheartening

Sorry, despite some possible inaccuracies that the mayor pointed out, the overall sentiments expressed by him were bang on and in agreement with what I would consider that mass majority of Thunder Bay citizens. The human rights approach is not working for anyone including the homeless.

Good news. It’s too bad it’s come to this…but the policies put forth by liberal governments have created this mess. Time for a different approach.

I cancelled Arizona this year and I was quite happy to do it. Won’t be going back into the states anytime soon. Nits not just trump. Half the country voted for trump. Thats half too many for me.

Why is it necessary to ask permission and get the blessing or have to consult with one group of people about everything???

Could not agree more. I can think of a few other “issues” where an entire industry has been built around supporting and maintaining rather than solving…..but mentioning them is usually not met well.

The bottom line is that no site is acceptable and this whole taxpayer funded project should be scrapped. There are plenty of empty buildings/rooms under DSSAB’s control that could be opened up. That’s the solution.

Right on Bob. It’s about time somebody stated the obvious.

Another money grab disguised as doing the right thing.

Let’s have that designated encampment across the street from Shelby’s residence. I’m sure her support for the human rights approach will diminish in a hurry….

Big mistake

The Carbon tax plus the added hst on the tax itself seems to be doing two things. Increasing the cost of fuel and inflation, while providing the government with more funds they can waste. What it's doing to save the planet is debatable.

So the question remains…why is this a three season problem? You do not see this occurring during the winter months. That would seem to indicate that most if not all of the homeless individuals do in fact have somewhere to go. If that’s the case…why is the city allowing the encampments ? Why not enforce existing bylaws and remove them?

He may have won.. but if anyone thinks he’s is capable or wants do anything about it…you’re sadly mistaken. He’s a narcissist and is only in this position for one reason. Himself.

City is following the human rights approach on this. Just not the human rights of the taxpayer….

Right on Bob. It’s time somebody stated the obvious. Thank you.

Not to mention the horrendous parking mess they made of court street. No spots to speak of on a tight narrow street. And you have to pay more for the parking than the coffee you're getting.

Get on board Thunder Bay…..tine to end this situation.

This is not the solution. It’s evident nobody wants it in their neighborhood or believes that this is a good idea. Add in the fact that the homeless tent camps will be allowed to continue. The proposed tent designated sites will not be enforced either, thus leaving tents available to set up anywhere without consequences. Take a look at Connaught park downtown across from the waverly library, or in the parkland behind the 55 plus centre on river street. Or Simpson street for the disaster that is happening there. The existing problems will persist unabated.

If these designated sites are not enforceable what is the point? This is only going to get worse as evidenced by the ever increasing size of the problem in just the last few years. Bylaw officers regulate every aspect of a taxpayers property, yet there's no rules for this? Doesnt make one bit of sense.
46
And this folks is what our poor police officers have to put up with on a daily/nightly business. The fact that we can find anyone to do this job anymore is a miracle...let alone the personal legal and social consequences that always seem to factor in on every one of these occurrences.
