I live on this street and believe me I would rather have this group be in that home rather than some of the previous renters. Give these men hand up not a had out. Help them get back on their feet. The city cries we need to do something about this crisis but yet get bogged down with bureaucracy because staff city staff does not know what goes on in this city.
Just a thought. Maybe as a pilot project for next year the city stops snow removal in Priority 3 areas at the end of February in order to save money. The snow melts fairly quickly or gets packed down so there really is no need to plow the streets.
I will never understand. Every time public sector workers get a raise in wages and benefits the cost of living goes up for all of us. Somewhere along the line governments need to understand this and so do their employees
I would like to thank city council for allowing the temporary use proposal to go thru. I think there was some confusion in thinking it was a request for rezoning rather than a usage permit. One councillor stated he would support the six letters supporting administration’s recommendation to deny the application vs the seventeen or more letters requesting council should approve the request for a temporary permit. It must not be easy for council to make a decision when little time is given to look at all the factors involved. Perhaps it is time for city administration to make sure that their due diligence as been done before recommending land use or permits be submitted to council for their vote.
Maybe an option would be to eliminate the Regional District and privatize garbage collection again like it was in the 80’s. It had proven that private enterprise can be more cost efficient and provide as good or better service.
Having a ward system doesn’t mean there are winners or losers, the city still benefits as a whole. The idea of having a personal dedicated to an area seams to me like they would have to be more accessible and accountable.
This is unbelievable. How can council members agree on not showing the tax paying public how their money is being spent? Legal or not they should have the moral obligation to do so. What a bunch of clowns.
We hardly get 10% of the public voting never mind getting off their sofas to go to city hall, get the form, fill it out and return it. City council is using this tactic for asking tax payers to borrow money for capital and operating costs far too often.
Perhaps the regional district should look at privatizing the operation of the landfill like it was before. Lower operating costs as well as more compatible hours of operation for the public would be a plus for the tax payers
I think the frustration from comes the fact that a budget is passed with have a tax increase then tax payers are hit with more cost for infrastructure or maintenance items at a later date. Council needs to stop this pattern of asking taxpayers for money. If city staff and managers can’t give a exact yearly expense report to take to city council then that is where the issue lies.
I still don’t understand why these upgrades are not budgeted for? This is the second time we have gone to the AAP for upgrades to CN Centre. I think Andy Beasley should be fired with no compensation. He is incompetent at best.
I think it would be money well spent for trying to deter crime in the downtown. I would rather see money spent on this idea rather than 3 million spent on a playground at the park. This would be a step in the right direction. And for those opposed to this idea just remember if you have nothing to hind why would you worry?
