I am lucky to have a doctor. Sometimes I do telephone calls instead of in person visits. I find these more efficient for everyone . By doing more of these we free some time up for other patients, hopefully. Video calls can also help. As a recent letter to the editor suggested, the system needs structural changes not just more money.
What about more low rental units for seniors ?Many seniors despite having worked all their lives struggle with high rents and high food prices. Not all seniors own their own home for a variety of reasons.I advocate for seniors because many of them are unseen and unheard. Canada despite being a rich country has a cost of living crisis mainly caused by mismanagement at the federal and provincial level. The province can only do so much because they can only borrow not print money. Towns like Orillia can only beg or raise property taxes.
IMHO. its going to be 10 years or so before the Liberals will get back in power. You can blame that on Ms. Wynne. Arguably the worst PM we have ever had in this province.
Wow.11 per cent increase.I think the major and. council should vote them a 11 per cent wage increase.Maybe everyone else in Orillia should ask for 11 per cent next year.Obviously I am being sarcastic, so please excuse me.IMHO, all forms of government and quasi government need to do more with less tax payers money. We don't have any more money to give you.
McIsaac re-iterated that staff have costed the entire program, pegging total costs at about $4.4 million. "Poverty is an important issue and it's real. I was looking for an indication of value and I didn't see anything," he said. "There wasn't anything related to economic development — a living wage, more jobs," he said.I agree with our Major. The best way out of poverty is through providing access to good paying jobs. However people who work within the "poverty industrial complex" will have other viewpoints.
Closing an educational institution is always sad.Perhaps an alternative to closing the campus was to try to "balance the books"another way. There is a shortage of engineers and tradesman in Canada. Perhaps Orillia could have offered more of these courses where good paying jobs are in demand .I think before any courses are offered at any educational institution there should be an economic assessment of the participants chances of getting a job so they can repay the loans.
This doesn't have anything to do with poverty reduction but rather to express my opinion on the constant censorship by the folks at the helm of Orillia matters.Censorship is the first tool in the box of fascist and communist dictatorships.Free speech is at the centre of a democracy, While I love reading local news I am tired of the constant "moderation".I just saw in real time some ones comments (not mine) being wiped .Whether or not this gets through will determine my future readership of this small town news agency.
It’s a sad chicken and egg situation. People deserve a living wage but if it drives up costs for everyone else then no one wins.May as well be on ODSP and get everything for free. No incentive to work at the current minimum wage.
Yup...If the Lighthouse gives them food and or shelter, they still need money to buy drugs. Stealing is one way.The justice system is a revolving door.
