OPINION: Guelph road users - all of them - need an etiquette lesson

There is something very funny about someone thinking that locking everyone into a car dependent society is not the short-sighted decision.

Goller is one of my councillors - and I definitely emailed him about how unnecessary it is to rehabilitate this bridge. Glad he is listening. As someone who uses the trails and this bridge on a semi regular basis, I don't care if it's old concrete or new steel. Just because something is old doesn't mean it has historical importance.

What makes biking more dangerous than driving?Could it be that they are less protected from all the drivers? So the issue isn't winter - it's bad drivers and bad infrastructure. Don't punish cyclists because drivers are incapable of conducting themselves in a safe manner.

Council loves a study. That they will inevitably ignore or defer any decisions on.Climate action is so well studied at this point - you could look at countless studies clearly showing what the biggest issues in cities are (transportation) or look at what cities around the world have already done. Guelph doesn't need to reinvent the wheel here - we are already way behind. We don't need years of conversation, we need action. We know what the solutions are, we just need the political courage to make those decisions. This is nothing but smoke and mirrors.

I'd rather them remove most of the on-street parking. Downtown is just a giant parking lot at this point. Make it a place for people, not cars.Everyone seemed to manage to get downtown without on street parking just fine during the Santa Claus parade when half the streets were shut down. The streets were filled with people - it was so lively. Give me more of that.

I wouldn't say placed so much as Guelph doing the absolute bare minimum but Downey Rd bike lanes have speed bumps in them.
