The city needs to stop this nonsense. There are plenty of organizations that fund and help the homeless. They also receive funding from the province and from the city. It’s one or the other.
We don’t need more than two camping sites. Plus the village is more than enough.. Start using the beds used during the winter months. They should remain open in the summer months as well. Administration not once mentioned to council there would be more camps after the village was built. They even went as far as stating RV sites. Administration is adding to this 10 part plan and council is getting blamed for this. The 10 part plan was for getting the village up and running. With the 5 million dollar village the can make people move along. Stop this madness.
It obvious that many individuals don’t want or have been banned from reserves. Yet, reserves still receive funds for the actual number even though they no longer live on reserve. They have moved to Thunder Bay and their funding did not follow them. Thunder Bay transfer payments haven’t increased to show the actual population for those not accounted for. I would be interested in knowing the process for individuals now living in urban cities. How are they funded and by whom and why are reserves still receiving funding when the actual population per reserve is less. Serious, changes need to be taken to accommodate Thunder Bays growing population who have chosen to live here and not on their reserves.
The entire public population wasn’t informed by the ministry of environment. What’s your point. It’s being taken care of and I’m sure protocol is being followed.
We already have two camping sites. Plus, the new village. We don’t need 3 camp sites. We have emergency beds during the winter and the need for them in the summer. 2 sites is enough they need to enforce the two sites or move them out.
Hamilton needs to clean up the encampments before the snow falls. We don’t need it frozen to the ground for the following year. Why isn’t that cleaned up on a regular basis? It can be done weekly if we can spend millions on a village. Or does administration want us to believe the village will make that mess disappear. Strangely, those encampments will still be there even with the village. Honestly if they kept those area’s cleaned up we don’t need the village.
How much will they pay for rent? What are the subsidized amounts that the city receive will receive from DSSAB and the other organizations? So many unanswered questions. What are the expectations of individuals who reside in these homes? Will there be mandatory programs where they must attend if it means even sitting in a room each day? How long will each resident stay in these homes before placed in housing? What are the procedures that DSSAB and other organizations will follow to ensure priority turnover? How will the public be informed of this process? Will there be mandatory public disclosure requirements for availability of housing and steps in placement by DSSAB. There should be monthly news information by these organizations. More informed status updates for the total number of placement housing units. Status on each unit. How many units sit empty? Provide insight of the full process from start to finish. Who, what and when action updates.
I can drive around and I can point out which houses are rentals. It’s that’s obvious. Rather than the city wait for complaints to be called in before taking action it’s their job to get out there and enforce bylaws.
The traffic volume didn’t warrant it. Since the city was doing there job allowing traffic on municipal roads section that the city has jurisdiction. MTO was laughing at our city and so was southern Ontario. Now MTO will have to prioritize fast.
If the government is giving us 2.8 million the city needs to scale this village down. We should only be spending that amount? Every other city doing this is at a 50 minimum. Too many unknowns and council is signing a blank cheque.
