OPINION: McArthur's appeal ignores the community he wants to serve

14We grant police a higher level of power than the average citizen. As such, they should be held to a much higher standard. The average person would lose their job and be jailed for assaulting a teen handcuffed to a gurney and then lying to medical staff. That would be the average standard, not the higher one to which I am referring. Furthermore, the other officers in that video who stood by and watched him assault the teen did nothing; they allowed a crime to be committed in plain view, one that they could have easily stopped. The only reason why McArthur is being prosecuted is the camera.At this point, even if McArthur loses his job, GPS has lost all credibility for not putting him behind bars, barring him from owning a firearm, and prosecuting the other two officers in the video for failure to act.
