Isn't Ford the same guy who decided it would be a good idea to cut power to some American states? Isn't Ford the guy who removed all American alcohol from LCBO shelves? Now he is asking for help? You can't make up this level of stupidity.
@Alfhild....she has a point. 89 million from tariffs is a far cry from 652 million in total loss. Why is no one holding the board accountable for the other 550+ million dollar loss IN ONE QUARTER?! That 500 million dollar loan won't last long at this rate. Maybe Ford and Carney should produce another TV ad. Elbows Up!
Soooo the government is pushing for the extract number of new jobs as there were people laid off? Why not 1500 or 2000 new jobs and grow our economy? Why only 1000? Jolie is one of the most under qualified MPs in government and that is saying a lot.
@Longtime2....UK, Vietnam, Philippines, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, and the EU. All have trades deals with the US. Do you know what they have in common? None of their leaders are economists. Please explain why a WEF globalist is the best choice because so far this government has done nothing but regurgitate the same Liberal drivel. Elbows up!!!
@HoundsFanatic....Trump has been in power for less than a year. The Liberals for the last decade. Please explain how, in your opinion, Trump has put Canada in the economic ruin we find ourselves. You sound like the typical Liberal Boomer lapping up all of Carney's fear mongering.
Blah blah blah, at the end of the day no politician is clean. None. Go dig around in the Biden admin, the Obama admin, the Clinton admin, the Trudeau admin. If you want compare the damage that will be done to future generations of Americans by Trump and the damage done to future Canadians by the Liberals, we come out in worse. Our steel, and auto sectors will be decimated if Carnage Carney doesn't start delivering on his promises. It has already been proven that the 3.4 trillion Trump will add to their deficit over 10 years will largely be covered by tariff income. Where is Clown boy Carney getting the money to cover his massive increase in spending? I'll give you one guess.....
Ford and Carney are peas in a pod. Neither for their party or Canadians, both for themselves. Anyone who gives Carney a passing grade thus far as PM is just a woke Liberal sheep. Jobs, down. Immigration, up. Housing starts, non existent. Affordability, all time high. Carney will make sure big business (and his portfolio) wins during his short run as PM. Ford did the same during Covid. Dougie won't get another term.
Anyone "thumbs downing" this has no idea how big the issues are right now at Algoma. We were not ready to start the EAF when we did. Reliably usable steel is still several quarters away. All these armchair quarterbacks who think it's just flipping a switch are uneducated or ill informed.
@Caring One...my point is, Trump is "responsible" for 89 million of a 652 million dollar loss. Who are you blaming for the rest? @Alfhild....you made my point for me. Algoma's poor financial position is more about poor management/leadership than it is about Trump. The sheep in this city can't seem to understand that though and all they see is Carney fear mongering and trying to blame Trump for the position Canada is in right now. Poor policy over the last 10 years is why Canada is declining as fast as it has. Did Trump allow unsustainable levels of immigration which put stresses on things like housing and medical sectors? Did Trump impose both a consumer and corporate carbon tax affecting every day cost of living? Did Trump bring in the catch and release policy allowing violent criminals to be back in our communities hours after committing crime? I don't hate or love Trump but I'm smart enough to know that he isn't the cause of Canada's decline.
@KevinSoo...I can't tell if you are serious or not. One of the largest fentanyl manufacturing hubs IN THE WORLD is in British Columbia. As a former resident I can tell you from experience that BC is a favourite destination for all things illegal from China. You can't be that naive to think, as the Liberals would have you believe, that only 1% of that finds its way down south.
@Duckie94....well chummy then let the employees do everything they can to save their jobs before the tax dollars go towards saving a company that has needed multiple bailouts over the last 20 years. How about the employees give up their profit sharing? Algoma has made several millionaires over the years, all of them upper management and executives. Perhaps people are tired of watching the company report quarters of losses yet still manage multiple millions of dollars in bonuses to the very people who have run it into the ground.
