why is this being announced on a sunday via social media where the mayor notoriously turns off commenting the second he realizes that peoples disagree with him?it genuinely seems like our mayor is straight up bad at his job.
is anyone else over guthrie as mayor? first he said that he wanted his slate elected because it would make it easier for him to have his way. now, we have strong mayor powers and he gets to ignore council. and now he’s demanding the reform of the mental health act?! oh how i wish we could go back to the pre guthrie times
agreed - this piece is very concerning. police were called while the journalist was on site to remove a homeless woman for a three day ban after an “outburst”? as someone who has previously worked for an emergency shelter, i don’t think that i once called police to remove someone from site. and 92 service restrictions with an average ban of 2.18 nights equals TWO HUNDRED nights where people with nowhere else to go were turned away. i’m not sure if this piece was an attempt at accountability but i’m very alarmed and have a lot of questions.
i strongly suspect that the city is being influenced by the downtown guelph business association here. and it’s so misguided as now our downtown will have more visibly homeless people spending their time outside.
both transitional and long term housing are needed to make any headway in addressing the housing crisis. projects like ‘a better tent city’ in kw set a great example and address the points you raised.
your second paragraph makes no sense. there was never any “letting in” - kate always served meals on the sidewalks so that anyone could access them. shame on you for this conjecture.
also, the fact that you’re not paid for your time (volunteers or chair) pisses me right off. you do good work for the betterment of our city and you deserve to be compensated, similar to AAC committees elsewhere.
