Trump confirms U.S. tariffs to increase on Canadian goods

I find it funny that so many Americans think that a tariff is a good thing, when in fact it drives the cost of their good purchased up by at least the percent the tariff is set at. The level of delusion is mind boggling!

The CEO of Algoma said it's due to tariffs, Trump (You know, the guy who is President of a different country) but I guess he's a liar and it's actually the Liberals right? Give your head a shake.

Just remember, Mark Carney of the Liberals is running to be the Prime Minister of Canada. Pierre Poilievre of the Conservatives is running to be the Governor of the 51st state.

Stop with the right wing talking point of "We need to elect a Prime Minister." Canada has never voted for the actual Prime Minister, you have always voted a party into power and then that party leader becomes PM. Mulroney stepped down, Kim Campbell took over as PC leader and she stayed PM.

Funny how PP calls out ending DEI practices in Canada, after having to hold another election, wasting millions of taxpayer dollars, to get back a job he was voted out of.

And yet my neighbour who is paralyzed from the waist down gets $1300 a month on ODSP to pay her rent, groceries, electricity, and other bills. She eats one meal a day because she cant afford anything more. Her daughter pays for her to have a cell phone for emergencies. Myself and a few other nearby folks do what we can to help her, but my question is why does the Ontario government force her to live in poverty while giving billions upon billions to corporations?

Or maybe Ford can release the healthcare funding he got from the feds but oddly enough has held onto much of it but opened lots of "Private" for profit healthcare/adjacent services that are owned by his donors.

There's well over 100 people working there that make over 100k a year. Most getting 15%+ a year raise for the last several years. Gravy train has ended with the new cap on international students.

He was a full on racist and homophobe. He ratted out Jessie "The Body" Ventura when he tried to form a wrestlers union that would have increased not only the pay for wrestlers but also safety. He threw the every WWE wrestler under the bus so he and only he could get paid more money. He stopped speaking to his own daughter several years back because she called him out on his bigotry. She nearly died in childbirth and he still refused to even speak to her or see any of his grandchildren. This is not a man to be celebrated. Sentiments like those that defined his "later" life belong in the past.

Bill 13 is the setup to making a two tiered healthcare system by changing expectations for access to our publicly funded system. Those with money will get faster access to better care, those that are poor(er), such as retirees/elderly or the disabled will make do with the leftovers. The cons and Ford specifically have been purposely underfunding Ontario healthcare to create issues so that their donors can wiggle in some for profit healthcare "solutions."

The city has been slowly dying over the last 20+ years. Our children leave for greener pastures elsewhere. Get us jobs that will allow families to build a life here. I am 100% behind this idea.

People with less severe issues don't get in before those with worse issues, stop perpetuating that lie to others. People get triaged (Seen by a nurse who prioritizes their injury) when their number is called. I do agree though that people attend to emergency for issues that aren't actual emergencies though and that does waste a large amount of time.

He was handpicked by Doug Ford as a parachute candidate. In my opinion he will do as Doug tells him and that will leave the jobs in Toronto. He will of course say he's going to bat for the Sault as his "look how hard I am working" but in reality he owes his thanks and allegiance to the big city and not to lil ole SSM.

I don't want to see Canada become a 2 party country like down south, we see where that has led them. We have the Conservatives spouting and pushing far right talking points like banning books and anti-vax. Now we have the Liberals who have moved from mostly center to a center right position with Carney. We need a 3rd viable option for the left leaning votes but sadly I don't think the NDP can fill that role. We can't have a Canada where the only representation we have is far right leaning (Cons) or right leaning (Libs). But at this point I am unsure how we can get to that point.

Find new markets. Start selling more to the EU. Relying on the U.S to buy our steel was fine until that demented Agent Orange they have in charge lost his mind.

Typical conservative methodology. Hide and fudge the numbers to look good, then blame the next guy/government that takes over!

The mockery is that PP lost his seat and his job then had someone step down so he could run again. Millions wasted so this man's ego could be placated. People came out in droves and added their names to the list as a form of protest.

It's not just Trump doing this, it's the Republicans that keep him in power. They are doing this to Canada along with the "51st State" garbage. They are no longer an ally and should be treated like the school yard bully they are. We have the means to respond, but for all of Ford's tough talk I see little reciprocal action.

Successive Ford governments have failed us and yet folks still wanna own the libs and think the anti-vax truckers were the good guys. Billions in Federal funding withheld, people dying in hallways waiting for care while he sets up his rich donors with private for profit "healthcare solutions" on our own dime.

If the government is going to pour hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars into the plant then let the government become the owner. Refit it to build steel/parts for our military for the next 50 years to keep it "In House/Canadian." With it's current offerings we have watched the plant slowly decline due to global issues. This is a chance to revamp it and make this a viable workplace for much more than the 2500'ish that work there now. I remember when it had 9-10k, this city was doing amazing!
