House arrest for local man who fled the scene of a fatal collision

This is an absolute joke of a sentence... Not only was a youth killed, but the driver fled the scene and denied he was involved. Time for judicial reform

The construction industry is heavily male dominated. A woman-only learning environment may bring those that would be less likely to attend if it were open to men. There's plenty of other training opportunities available that men can attend

It would make the most sense for the city to implement a by-law to prohibit encampments elsewhere after this is complete - we'll see if that happens

Wise Owl: if you’re so passionate about this “illegal” activity I suggest you inform the Thunder Bay Police

You can say this about basically any part of Thunder Bay - East End, Limbrick, Picton, Simpson… no matter what corner of town you pick there will be drug issues. Welcome to Tbay!

Agreed. No reason for 1000 parking spaces for a Thunder Bay Costco....

I think it’s safe to say that COVID really did a number on the healthcare staff - being overworked and underpaid can only last for so long. Interesting to read Grinspun say that the profession is changing in a good way after talking about retention issues and poor working conditions..?The Ontario Learn & Stay program is not the solution… while it has helped some, many are going to school only to take advantage of the free education - not because they actually want to (or should) become nurses. This leaves both unhappy nurses and patients who receive care from those who don’t even like their jobs (hence why many leave the profession early). What we need are nurses who actually care - especially when working with the elderly, which is hard to come by these days given their working conditions

Wise Owl: Every suggestion you made goes against our human rights... Forcing people to do things against their will is a very dangerous and damaging route to take. Genuine morality requires free will and choice

So what is your solution then? Do nothing and watch the issue persist? Your NIMBY attitude is the reason why no change is happening and we’re stuck in this perpetual cycle. Do some reading into Medicine Hat and how they got rid of chronic homelessness then provide useful input

@Grammar Please - yes, it's taxpayer money you already pay to the unhoused via emerg visits and policing. This is a much more sustainable use of money

While I don't disagree, the tax money that pays for our road maintenance isn't even in the same category as the taxes that went towards this faculty.

Planner: So you’re saying you would watch / allow someone to overdose on drugs instead of administering naloxone to save their life because they knowingly took illegal drugs? Wow… in that case you’re making it easy for them to be the “victim” as you call it.

Right because that’s an affordable and easy thing to do especially with our current housing market… put some thought behind your words before you comment ignorant “advice”.

Light synchronization and proper off/on ramps should be dealt with prior to this. Or how about removing the lights altogether and implementing cloverleaf ramps like they were supposed to years ago - it’s almost like a major highway shouldn't have stoplights!? The increase in traffic will be a nightmare and I won’t be surprised by the inevitable crashes that ensue…

Drugs are everywhere - same can be said outside of grocery stores or quite literally anywhere in this city

Not needed? Time to do some research. It's a sports turf facility - not limited to only soccer. Given that we live in a city where it's winter more months of the year than not, I'd say it's reasonable to construct a building that allows children and athletes to be active throughout the entire year

Not all those that are unhoused are addicts. And if they are, they need the support.

Agreed. Don't see the point in 1000 parking spaces for a Thunder Bay Costco...

Reality is the cities that charge for parking tend to have a functional and reliable transit system. There’s a severe lack of busing here with over half hour wait times - not to mention the city is looking to reduce the bus routes and have them be on-demand. If you want to grow the city and charge the same as big cities, at least have the transit capacity to do so…
