Bridge closure sparks concerns over emergency access and property values

It looks like the detour is about 1 km longer than the route that uses the bridge. At 50km/hour that is only an extra 1.2 minutes. I'm sure it is disappointing to feel like they are backtracking but it isn't actually that much longer by car. Maybe a pedestrian bridge to replace the decommissioned bridge would be more reasonable.

The point of clearing hydrants is to reduce the time to access them in an emergency. Having the firefighters away from the station to clear them while waiting for calls increases their response time in an emergency. I don't know that this time trade-off in an emergency makes sense.

Super shady to drag Caputo for what she posts online after using his grandfather's name to try to anonymously post a letter to the editor.

That's why I keep mine clear as a precaution. If it's ever used it will help me or my neighbours.

I also noticed the word "initial". Clearly the plan will be to expand. While they are framing the intent to explore snow as a cooling measure, that will likely prove to be not practical and if it is, that is only for the winter months. Lake Superior is probably a huge target for data centre's on both sides of the border. We need to protect our Great Lakes from data center damage.

Shame on Petsave. If they truly wanted what was best for this senior cat, they would return him to his loving home ASAP. This situation will be extremely stressful since senior cats are more vulnerable to anxiety, depression and health issues. Pessot is being unreasonable in this case.

This intermittent closure in combination with the Peoples Road closure will redirect a lot of traffic to Third Line. I wonder if a temporary 4-way stop at Third Line and Peoples Road would be beneficial.

It's actually only about 1-2 minutes to drive around it.

A tree fell on the wires. Peoples Road near third line.

This doesn't sound poorly handled by the city. They immediately closed a bridge that was determined to be unsafe. They will have a structural evaluation completed and decide how to proceed after that. I think this is a case where you can say they actually handled it properly so far.

Blaming executive salaries is classic distraction. We all know the biggest Healthcare problem we face in SSM is losing doctors. More family doctors would mean less people going to the ER for non-emergency situations or being seen sooner for treatment and potentially avoiding more serious illness.

The majority of our crimes stem from mental health and addictions problems. Tough on crime is reactionary and does nothing to actually prevent crime. We need better mental health supports.

3 new GHC doctors, who are immigrants, took on 3500 local patients recently. The medical issue and immigration are related, but not in the way I think you are implying

I completely agree that owners need to be responsible for their pets and that cats should stay indoors for their safety. 100%. Maybe the bylaws in Sudbury need to change. But in this case, we need to consider that this old cat is probably confused by his new surroundings and missing his family. He was cared for, he is loved and he is missed.

I think this article is in response to someone on FB saying that their neighbour was deliberately piling the snow from their driveway on to the hydrant. I think the fine would be for burying a hydrant, not for not clearing it. Clearing it is just a smart thing to do.

About 1.3 million Canadians would lose their equal rights protections by going into the U.S. right now. I support councilor Caputo!

Considering the life jacket example, I would be much better at assisting a drowning person if I was wearing a life jacket even if they are not. Just for clarification though, a vulnerable person is someone who is unable to be vaccinated, such as an infant. Mmr vaccines aren't typically given until 1 year. They are also at higher risk for serious illness so it just makes sense to protect them as best we can.

This could help diversify our local economy, but 1000 jobs is not realistic for a data centre of this size. On-site jobs will more likely be 70-120. The rest will probably be remote work located closer to the clients listed in Southern Ontario. Still a decent number of local jobs, but concerning that they might be intentionally overselling the local job creation given the recent layoffs.

On May 19, 2015 there was an article posted that 3 pelicans were on Lake George at Finn's Bay Road. This must be a migration path for them since they live more in the area of Thunder Bay.

I didn't believe this question oversteps because it is one question that asks the person's sexual orientation (not sexual preferences. Haha). But I thought it should include an option for "I don't know" since I was filling it out on behalf of everyone in my house.
