The mayor did not directly answer how much this cost. Nor how much it will cost now to maintain, especially should there be more vandalism. A tape and fence will not stop those who want to do what they want. Are they going to have security protecting it 24/7? Waste of time and tax payers money. There are more important concerns in this city right now. Whether you agree or disagree with the statue, this was not the process that should have been done.
Complete abuse of Power. Shameful. I hope Orillians remember what happened here and do not give McIsaac and those who supported this another term.I hope Mr Lee looks into legal options against the city.
I find it very disturbing Smith has made this a political move for her mayor campaign. Not to mention she is apparently spreading incorrect information. This is a horrible tragedy and doing thoughts and prayers and doing that video to help her mayor race is shameful.
Most if not all of the same members of council will likely be elected again, so this is basically avoiding the issue once again because they don't want to take a stance before the election.
I hope voters are paying attention this election. Don may be gone, but there are people running again who want to continue his way and those who have not yet announced.
Its been vandalized already and now they are putting an eye sore tarp over it. Very bizarre move by an outgoing mayor who well knows that putting it back in place for "storage" was not what council was intending.
It does seem odd that Whitney redrew the topic of the the statue and redesign. Did she do this to avoid discussion about this?Unfortunately this does need further investigation because we also need to know the extent that staff were aware or involved in this process. It is simply not possible to trust the mayor anymore.
Smith wants the $15 million back, but at the same time her and Ralph wanted to increase the budget for a statue. She also says buying back the land from Parks is very valuable. Seems like she wants to waste a lot of money and wants that $15 million to waste from.
There were many visible laughs when Ralph said it takes 30 minutes to get to West Ridge and that he acts like him and Ford are best friends. Maybe we should be concerned about Ralph - is he okay?
More clear information should be provided and investigated on how long these lands have been owned by the current owners, what development steps have been taken during that time, and why the lands have remained undeveloped. This information would help residents assess the merits of maintaining the current development permissions versus adopting the proposed natural heritage designation.
McIssac's excuse this was needed during an emergency and admission that Amanpreet is not even in the country further proves this is indeed a political move
Why did this article not mention that Bell, in what appeared to be a very distraught and perhaps threatening manner said she might get into a car crash after being told to leave?Bell has had opportunities to raise these things before with the proper process and she either chooses not to follow or plead ignorance. Much of her dialogue was incoherent. She cites research, but at every point this research was shown to either be incorrect or biased simply towards her opinion. She seems to be fighting for a select group of people. Likely her voting base. There are other taxpayers too. She seems to forget, she voted for the municipality sewer system changes to begin with. All this seems performative in a way to backtrack. She is campaigning clearly and hoping her supporters will vote for her again will see that although she voted for the thing they are not happy about, she is doing what she can to undo some things, while trying to cast doubt on everything with chaos.
