Well written former Judge Douglas. I cannot stand politicians who not only fail to understand the Canadian judicial system but also fail to understand our constitution. Constitutional knowledge and accuracy should be demanded of all our leaders. Trying to hint that constitutional rights should be violated as a politician should be reprimanded.
This is just so upsetting to read. Meanwhile, Ford blows $2.3B of taxpayer money into a megaspa and millions consulting about a tunnel that saves no one any real time...all that money could be used to treat Ontarians. It is tragic that this is who the majority voted for and this is the way patients are treated in Canada.
I don't think you're understanding a few things here...first off, the proposed waterfront plan would not cost taxpayers $17M...about half of that will be provided in grants etc. Second, the municipal government does not provide you with tax relief...look to your provincial and federal leaders for that.
What world do you live in where just because you voted for a candidate, you can no longer ever question what they are doing or disagree with their decisions? This is a genuine red flag for brainwashing. People should ALWAYS question their leaders and use their voices to make change where they see decisions being made they don't agree with. Don't subscribe to this all or nothing mentality; do better and let's start making some change instead of perpetuating useless rhetoric.
Buster - that same former chief ran us into millions of dollars of unforeseen deficit - why treat what he has to say as the gospel? The former chief and CFO seem to have mismanaged the Sault Police service and instead of being accountable, have blamed the board. I find it disappointing that Hollingsworth confirmed her continuing support for former Police Chief Hugh Stevenson. We don't need to condemn him, mistakes happen (I guess) but he needs to be held accountable for this mismanagement of our tax dollars and we need city councillors who aren't blinded by politics like Hollingsworth.
Yet people deny climate change. This is absolutely terrible, and we need to come up with a solution before we are all facing what those in the prairies have been experiencing.
Exactly Kim Wexler's Ponytail - he ran us into the ground, wasting our hard earned tax dollars while making over $200K per year yet faces no accountability. It's really disappointing to see, especially from city councillors like Hollingsworth. It's clear she supports him politically (she has been clear about that and her support of Chris Scott), which is fine, but it appears this is blinding her in her position on council in which she should put personal politics aside.
100% they also make up something like over 85% of our cities budget each year...something needs to change. When folks complain about the council mismanaging I think we need to really look at the police services.
Why not volunteer to help out then? Work to make it what it used to be when you were a kid for kids now - like all the volunteers are trying to do rather than just complain about it.
Everyone needs to be aware of Bill C-5, which the Ford government is trying to pass quietly. It allows his cabinet to declare ANYWHERE a "special economic zone," including the greenbelt, parks, etc. and bypass the Endangered Species Act. Comments are still open on this bill - please Google it and leave yours. We need to shine a light on this and protect our environment from Doug's buddies.
