Look, I realize this is being funded through donations. But two art installations, at a cost of $250,000 each?! Perhaps I don't understand how much art should cost... but what is that amount even for? Supplies? Time? I just don't understand.

What entirely despicable human beings. So sad to see that people in our community have been misled by people who tried to pass themself off as leaders in our community. So gross. That also goes for the other fraudster, Barry Leidl, who was handed a lawsuit in the summer after he and his wife were caught stealing millions from Jesuits of Canada. (https://www.guelphtoday.com/police/jesuits-of-canada-suing-guelph-couple-for-72m-10850030)Throw them all in jail and get them out of our community. Good riddance.

This council needs to stop listening to developers that only care about their own bottom line and not about the community they are developing in. If a developer doesn't think a project is worth building here because they have to offer affordability... then GET OUT OF OUR COMMUNITY! We don't want you! I think its outrageous that anyone believes these prime properties downtown are going to go undeveloped because of it. Someone will choose to build their projects here while actually caring about our community. Why even come up with an affordability strategy if you aren't going to follow it? This council does so many things that make zero sense. We need more municipalities (not just our own) pushing back against against developers if we ever want to see change. Let's be part of that instead of back tracking every chance we get. Its getting embarrassing.

*$200k and $300k each, my mistake. Okay, good to know about the gryphon statue. Thanks Matt. I really have no idea how much these things cost, so having something to compare to is definitely helpful. I'm assuming a lot of that goes into materials (?) Still seems like a lot of money for art alone, when the money could be used for other programming options or library services that benefit the community in a more tangible way. Just my opinion though!

The corporation directors are Martha Adams and Morgan James Adams

Surprisingly not! Wouldn't be surprised if they gobbled it up into their "portfolio" though. Who else can afford that?!

A toll on the public? Come on now.. a few amenities are going to be closed for two weeks. I'm sure folks will survive. The alterative is that the City lets things degrade to a point where they need to be shut down for even longer to accommodate replacements within the facility. Would you prefer that? It actually boggles my mind how daft folks can be.

Perhaps JayWalking Tours can create a special bicentennial walking tour around Guelph and donate all of the funds back to the City to help pay for the birthday festivities. The rest of us would prefer our tax dollars better spent.

"There will be a tuition fee for enrolment, similar to other independent schools in the area, though he said they hope to rely on the “generosity of the community” to fund the school with fundraisers."

I'm gonna go ahead and say you're both wrong!@BH6, you forgot to include 92 additional classes that had 27 or more students, all split with JK and K children (you need to add split grades together to get the correct class size counts). That would bring the total up to 216 classes out of 1028 classrooms (you miscounted there too), or approx 21% of all elementary classrooms for 2024-25 in UGDSB. @Matt, you're also incorrect in stating that avg class sizes have been almost 30 for the entirety of Ford's term. I did the math for every year he has been in office and here are the average elementary class sizes for the prov (and UGDSB for comparison):2024-25 = 22.6 (23.0 UGDSB)2023-24 = 22.6 (23.0)2022-23 = 22.6 (22.8)2021-22 = 22.3 (22.8)2020-21 = 21.0 (22.0)2019-20 = 22.6 (22.8)2018-19 = 22.5 (22.8)I don't have kids or an opinion on the matter, but let's get the facts correct before squabbling like little babies. Have a good day!

@MakeGuelphGreatAgain - I highly suggest you have this conversation with your children. What is their perspective on the matter? How do they feel knowing that you don't support changes like this that could lead to a slightly more affordable future for them? How do they feel "working hard and paying their own way" knowing that the younger generation's purchasing power will never be the same as that of their parent's generation? I think its very important that parents have these types of discussions to truly understand how to support their children (personally, politically, ideologically) with their futures. After all, that's what being a parent is all about right?

You should probably donate your personal funds for this event if you're so upset. Let me guess, you're probably part of the generation that bought your home for pennies? In which case, I'm sure you have lots available to donate. The rest of us would prefer our tax dollars go to something more important.

*$200k and $300 each
The city is removing the current pay stations that have been located at the exit gates, but are installing new pay stations that are stand alone machines. Payment at the new machines must be done upfront after parking, rather than upon exit from the lots.
