When language gets softened like this, it misleads the public about the real safety issues downtown and around Moccasin Flats. We can have compassion for people who are unhoused, but pretending this is just ‘carelessness’ helps no one. Especially the people living and working nearby.
People act like public workers are asking for luxury pay, when most are just fighting to keep up with inflation and get treated with basic respect. The government always finds money for corporate tax breaks or consultant contracts, but somehow never for the people actually keeping things running. Striking isn’t selfish
The downtown decline can become permanent if nothing changes. Cities that turned it around (Calgary, parts of Edmonton, even New York decades ago) did three things at the same time:1. Strong enforcement of public order2. Large investments in treatment and housing3. Heavy investment in making downtown attractive againIf you only do one of those three, nothing changes.
Unions are one of the few interest groups that represent middle class interests. Its wild to see the comments of "patriots" be disparaging on this news site often.
PG City Fun park had to wait weeks and weeks to open because the city could not get around to granting occupancy. When people make big investments and take big risks it must be so defeating when its the city creating costly delays. It would be amazing to get more entrepreneurs opening stores like 2nd Thoughts, Ritual, 3Goblins and Jacks etc..
Waiting until all the snow piles are gone before sweeping might save a bit of effort, but it comes at the cost of air quality. Pine Centre Mall and others should be getting on this sooner.
The Prince George Cougars losing sucks bad calls or not but what’s worse is seeing our own crowd turn into a sideshow. Throwing stuff and fighting in the stands is embarrassing and makes the whole city look small. This is supposed to be a place families can come enjoy a game, not worry about dodging garbage or watching grown adults act like idiots. If you can’t handle a loss without losing control, stay home. Prince George deserves better than that.
There are strikes and strike talks everywhere in Canada lately. If wages fall behind inflation, that’s basically a pay cut. It’s disappointing how often people blame the workers instead of understanding what they’re fighting for.
Not exactly a pleasant environment or clientele if this even a concern that is occuring: “The benefit of this is that it mitigates crowding and a line up of people, which in turn reduces the chances of confrontation between patrons,”
Camera's and spray make sense. Batons and handcuffs do not. Pushing toward active restraint and control creates issues of concern. Training burden/Legal exposure/Role creep and public trust.
Great news! Prince George is exactly where this kind of investment belongs. Our central location in northern B.C. makes us the logical hub to stage equipment and respond quickly in every direction. When minutes matter in a wildfire having trucks, pumps, and crews pre-positioned here instead of hundreds of km's away is a huge advantage.
