People's Road reopening to traffic this week

Actually, they are right on schedule. Closed May 28, and was expected to be 26 weeks which brings us to Wednesday of this week. Yesterday. Do you really want them to pave the top coat now while there is snow on the ground and the pavement cracks in the spring? Makes more sense to pave the entire road all together once the next portion of work is done. That was the original plan. No need to be so negative. People have been complaining that we need road work done in this city, and now that they are working on the roads, we have negative people like yourself complaining.

So negative. People complain all the time that the city does nothing, but when they do do something, people complain anyways. At least now when the snow melts, the equipment will be usable right away. If they wait until the spring, they have to wait for the snow to melt, and the ground to thaw out.

@Honda - the liberals are pushing green steel because most other countries aren't allowed to purchase non green steel to abide by their green rules. That is why it is important that we create new trade relationships with other countries, so when the USA tanks, we have other customers to sell our product to.

What do the school boards and the city have to do with Algoma Steel?

SpaLady - Maybe you should relocate and live in town if you don't want to deal with the construction. Maybe make arrangements for the toddler to stay in town to avoid the construction. Maybe bring some games or toys to distract the toddler. My hubby and I have 4 children, and used to road trip across Canada. We always brought distractions.

Then maybe don't live so far away from town if you're that concerned.

Sounds like it's for the whole province.

That's not what this article is talking about. We would not be advertising for store owners. They said similar to how mall advertises for stores. We would be advertising for things like the agawa canyon tour train, pointe des chenes beach, fort creek conservations area, Hiawatha highlands, Rotary Fest, Bon Soo, etc.Instead of tourists walking buy empty ugly store fronts, they will see nice and fresh advertising for

Lauren Kroll, Maybe if you gathered up about $500,000 you could email the Keg or Moxies and see about securing franchise rights to open one up. Also, we already have a Casey's here.

So you're blaming the city for the huge increase in motor vehicle operators? When you were young, they were still using horse & buggy, so of course there was less traffic. You also have to factor in that most households have more than one vehicle now. When I was young, we had 1 vehicle for a family of 4. Now all 4 of us have our own vehicles. That is not the city's fault. Also, our population has increased significantly. With that come more vehicles, and the need to re-assess our traffic patterns, just like the city is proposing to do.If you think the "city" is doing such a bad job, maybe you should run for council so you can make the changes you want to see. Maybe, if you get elected to council, you will see that you can't just make changes with the wave of a magic wand.

Rehabilitate the current bridge for 8 million, and have to spend money on it in the future. They are looking at the most cost effective solution, long run.
2
They wanted to put a round-a-bout in, and everyone complained. That would have solved so many issues, but most people are too stupid to understand how they work, so the idea was scrapped.I agree with Greenjeans, a double left turning lane going north on GNR would be great, but once the sackville road extensions is done, that will alleviate lots of the traffic using that left turn lane.

Maybe more people would utilize public transit if their input was taken. Also, no one is forcing people to purchase 50K vehicles. Lots of less expensive options out there.
3
Correct! It also opens up the Dennis street property to redevelopment that could benefit the downtown core.
--Seller--8 million for a bridge that will require maintenance and upkeep. They are looking at the long term. 7.2 million removes an insurance liability, and puts 5 million towards improvements for a road that has no bridges. That makes more sense to me.

Why? No different that a car sales person. They work an entire 8 hour day without getting paid, and only get paid when they sell a car. All of these workers knew about the pay conditions when they signed their employment contracts.

You realize that people go ice skating when it's -20 outside right? People go to the Bon Soo bum slides in the Winter. People play hockey in the middle of Winter.

Obviously you have no idea how government funding like this works, but when we receive funds like this, it isn't just fun money to spend how we want, it has to be spent for the specific purpose it was intended for, otherwise we don't get the funds.Really? You are wondering where your tax dollars go? $2,000 is not that much considering the rate of inflation and the cost of living. Does your garbage & recycling not get picked up weekly? Do your roads not get cleared of snow in the Winter? Do they not get swept to remove the sand? Do you not have street lights on your street? etc. etc. Think of how much is costs to put gas in your vehicle, or snowblower, and take a moment to think how much it costs to fill city snow removal equipment.

There are currently 2 cannabis dispensaries on Queen Street. Matchbox Cannabis over near the bus terminal, and True North Cannabis near the Bushplane Museum.

They are also looking at the idea of having the drunk driver pay child support to the children of the parents they kill. A good start.
