Yes they did expect the scrutiny. Your published comments by Jen Higham support. She cites social media scrutiny as being a reason council needs raises. Thank goodbess for public accountability. I also want to state if someone needs to fear social media backlash, a public seat isn't the space for them!
While I empathize with Susan and am an advocate for wage parity, many employers have conflict contracts that don't allow multiple employers, and council is a job. Just because those extra hours were to put towards council to fill her time, this do not equate to her being 'paid less', it just means she didn't have two incomes. We have many community members that will never touch the wealth of her family and this comment was extremely out of touch with the majority of the community.
Incorrect. People don't make better choices unless sociological systems teach them instead of ostracizing them. If you choose not to break bread with him, you are part of how he ended up here. So are you responsible for yours?
This rezoning was not actually discussed until after the third reading was past. In fact, the city did not discuss thus whatsoever in the September council meeting as this followed Crossroads owners plea to the city and it was clearly evident they didn't ask ANY questions to administrator. Nevermind that Ms. Sinclair is 'does not have the time or mental space' to reply to a journalist a) how does she handle parental and northern health concerns, and b) is that why she didn't post the required by bylaw signage to notify the neighbors of her intention? Just because the OCP allows it, doesn't mean we have to do it. Especially with two other more appropriate locations asking got rezoning in the same space. Not sure why residents are being asked to pay for the lacking diligence from the city and the applicant.
Whistleblowers should not have internal reporting in a city like PG. If you have read the former whistleblower policy, it's self protective, and the timing of its creation in city hall is also. Now the question really becomes... Who is Babicz trying to protect this time?
I largely agree with where you are coming from. The fat needs to be cut from administration and internal processes need to be managed to save money and prevent yearly 6% tax increases.
So basically rhe vendor is saying they can't manage process and are asking the public to pay. It's interesting that such things were not factored into the usage contract.Additionally, having VIP parking closer than accessible parking is a highly questionable practice under the accessible BC act and can't believe that is in any way acceptable practice.
Agreed. If we really looked at that. Then I want the wages to be factored on the populations managed. Apples to apples that means wages for everyone would probably decrease.
This is one of the main concerns of the residents of the street. Under the rezoning bylaw the facility needs to have nine off street parking spaces to accomodate staff and attendees. In the winter the road becomes extremely narrow and is a P3 plow route which means it is often a mess. In fact, on neighbor with a bobcat often maintains it himself due to the lacking diligence.
We should be DEMANDING BC Assessment be moved out of City Hall.BC Assessment needs complete transparency. Ever tried to dispute an increase? They can't even tell you what values are based off or the radius used to determine values. So I'd be interested to see the actual data.
Just curious when Cedarcore met with council previously seeing as they were encorporated Jan 6, 2026. Who owns it? If you aren't willing to tell residents, we don't need this here.
UNBC has higher costs for management and administration that any comparable Canadian facility by over two times the cost. Do they need to pull out of the reserve funds? Nope cause if they could manage these admin costs to the same level as 'like' providers it would save them 23 million a year.
Just saying - I did far more research than the city did on this. The average property value on this street in the Hart is HALF of the bowl. Property values go up based on Highest Bid Unit. So zone at RM1 they get an automatic 3% property value increase. I know the other hart owners who maintained the character of the neighbourhood by putting a protective covenant on their property during the rezoning. Also, at the bylaw passing, the city could have recinded this to do more research (but administration conveniently didn't let council know this could be done). If you are a professional and want to have an actual conversation, that isn't just about a daycare and actually about poor process, I am happy to.
