These cameras are not about safety, they're a tax. The city's argument is that "slowing down traffic equals safety” but they have yet to release any before and after statistics on pedestrian injuries at each camera location. While these cameras were busy running all summer in front of closed schools, the City of Barrie continued to expand this program without providing a single piece of evidence that it has actually made our roads safer. Until they can show us proof beyond just a minor speed reduction, it's impossible to see this as anything other than a revenue-generating program disguised as a public good.
