Fact: The side of the street with no sidewalk will have a property value increase as you can now park an extra car in the drive way.Save money and go with the sensible option.
Council. Please reconsider this vote. The sidewalks currently being replaced are in some cases over 50 years old and have been patched over with asphalt and do not conform with safety width measurements. These walks have been unsafe for seniors for many years. Until you catch up with the neglected improvements I would strongly suggest you install one side only on all city streets and remove the old sections on the opposite side. Consider the liability issue out there until you catch up and the cost savings to the community.$$$$$$
Two days in a row. First the destruction of 66 Peter St the former OPP office which we may rebuild to serve others now the second example of the Library which we cannot afford.Look back who was on council on both decisions.Champagne taste on a beer budget.
Unlike Barrie or any other Regional Police Service you are under contract with the OPP with no opportunity to negotiate. You must adapt to yearly increases beyond your control.
A great location for the future Bus terminal HOWEVER why would the prior mayor/council allow the destruction of a building erected in 1977 when it could have served as a future bus terminal with ample room for affordable housing as well.Just pile it up to Champagne taste on a Beer budget. Additional debt over years of spending leadership.
All they are doing is putting some lipstick on an area of the city that has social problems and high crime. This is a common problem with most downtowns as people flock to box stores offering free parking and ample of it.
