OPP ends Mayor Chirico probe with no charges

For case to have weight it has to be proven he willfully and deliberately stole. He can always say "it was a mistake. I put those expenses on the wrong card and I corrected it." How are police going to submit evidence to the prosecutor he did it intentionally? How?Look, , , I'm not a fan, either. But you people have an OPINION he should be criminally charged and the OPP deal with reality, not opinions.

I see a person stepping up to the plate and doing the right thing when a matter needs tending to.When he learned prominent figures in the McGuinty government deleted e-mails in the gas plant scandal, Vic (as opposition Energy critic) requested the OPP begin an investigation. This act led to:1. David Livingston being found guilty of breach of trust, mischief relating to data, and misuse of a computer system. He was sentenced to four months in jail in 2018.2. Privacy Commissioner finding that Chris Morley (former chief of staff to Energy Minister Chris Bentley) and Craig MacLennan (former chief of staff to the energy minister) violated the Archives and Recordkeeping Act by deleting emails. You seem to want to criticize for no valid reason. Please use your intelligence to contribute something worthy of our time.

Be prepared for lots of noise. A lot."But it's for economic development".Okay. We "can also be proud!!!" of the fact we'll a premium destination . . . tops. An international centre, "none like it in the world", head of the game for . . . . . . training pilots to kill people in war zones."But it's for economic development". Okay.

This is a business. Its intention is to make money, not advance peaceful solutions. To that end, it recently attended a trade show in Sub-Saharan Africa to promote their products. This is the region of Uganda, South Sudan, Democratic Republic of Congo, Sierra Leon and Rwanda. They also attended a trade show in Saudi Arabia, promoting their services to Middle East prospects. This is the region of Yemen, Iraq, Syria, the West Bank and Gaza. You can call yourself a provider “to our allies and the five eyes”, but you forgot to mention if the other countries are prospects you’d take money from.If you could profit from both sides in a conflict, would you? Just asking. Because the rest of the world is trying to alleviate conflict while you add kerosene to the fire.A pilot can also choose to start an aviation school training pilots in medevac operations instead of fighter jets. But that’s his choice, not mine.

If both sides are now full on toxic it means there's disagreement. Why are you pandering to one side? Is this not a democracy? Is it not fair both sides are heard?I refuse to have my European heritage shamed and belittled because one French explorer — who had nothing to do with residential schools — is hated for no reason other than he was European, and brought into an agenda I call "legalized bigotry".

Many people believe health care funding is exclusively a provincial matter, and it isn't. It's funded to a great degree through the Canada Health Transfer payments and Equalization Payments to the provinces. It's time the nearly $12 billion that flows from Crown-Indigenous Relations annually to bands is pruned down to zero and we allow first nations communities to govern themselves. This has proven successful with Rama First Nation via a very profitable casino business. It has generated $5.2 billion in gross revenues since opening in 1996. Earlier on, profits were shared with "family" first nations across the province. They can do it with other businesses, like the twin-pad ice rink and entertainment complex proposed on Nipissing First Nation. It is unconscionable that over & above the $10 B given out to bands via the Robinson-Huron Treaty more money is given via Crown-Indigenous Relations annually. This needs to stop and the money go to fund hospitals.

No, you can't give them a fine. Passive panhandling, including standing on traffic medians, is generally permitted. It's only illegal if it's aggressive, intimidating, causes a person to fear for their safety, or involves persistent soliciting after a "no" response. Standing on a median with a sign or passively asking for money doesn't meet this threshold.

I was homeless— three times. And the cause was: I didn’t heed the multiple warning signs and was delusional about how things were going to turn out.I never ended up on the street, but I did stay with family and friends. They gave me a room until I could find my next place to stay.In exchange for the room, I took care of children, cooked, washed pots & pans, loaded & unloaded the dishwasher, swept floors, vacuumed, did gardening, brushed and fed dogs, baled hay for my cousin’s horses, and more. I took the initiative and didn’t wait to be asked.I occasionally talk to people I see holding signs around town, not just the bypass. And was stunned at how unwilling they were to do the same.

You go to the FREE addictions medicine doctor on Main Street, get FREE Methadone at the Pharmasave beside him, and stay at a FREE shelter until you find a place. Then you get FREE food at multiple food banks and a FREE bicycle at Discovery Routes to get it. Then you manage your health condition with FREE self-help books at the library and put yourself on a waiting list for a program if you have to.And you do what's difficult: GROW UP and do what you don't want to do for a while until your situation settles.

The NBRHC is not the Hilton, nor is it one's personal valet. The fact they brought up discharge with the patient, learned he didn't have a place to go to, called to see if space was available at the shelter, confirmed it was, called for a cab, pre-arranged payment for it — all while trying to manage the influx of patients coming & going — shows they went above and beyond in my eyes. A relative in Powassan was found in the end. Why weren't they called at the outset? This is called growing up and owning what is yours.

To me, this looks like a deliberate attempt to discredit their employer, who obviously made a mistake in deciding to allow the trains to run. But these employees had choices and refused to take them — like stopping or retreating when you see danger. I've met my fair share of lefties who do unconscionable things when angry at management. One guy I knew worked at a famous sugar company and was shoveling heaps of it for shipping. So, he decides to pull down his pants and urinate on the sugar — all because he refused to use the tools conferred to him at birth: his brain and his voice. Why did these men drive into the fire — right in the middle of the flames — then pull out their phones?

". . . this incident should never have happened. CN should never have sent a train down those lines. The company knows exactly how bad the situation is in that region. That fire has been raging for five weeks.”Did you know?I just want to remind everyone that under the Occupational Health & Safety Act, a worker has the right to refuse instructions they believe would risk their safety. To me, this was an emergency and it was beyond belief to decide to pull out a phone and start recording. Didn't you see the flames up ahead? And smoke? And let me get this straight: you drove right into it?

@GimmeabrakA few weeks ago, one commenter on this topic said they listened to an interview with one of these people. The panhandler told the interviewer that on a good day they pocketed $300 standing on the median. No shame. "I want money but I don't wanna work for it."

I believe the problem was about the lack of judicious oversite, not lack of funding. And he responded with the government implementing tougher training standards, cracking down on fraudulent licenses and introducing requirements for mandatory Canadian driving experience before drivers can obtain an AZ license. He's also implemented electric log monitoring, and new entry-level training for new truck drivers. So, it sounds to me like he's addressing a lack of judicious oversight with greater and better oversight.

My opinion of Vic is different from yours. I see him as honorable and more than willing to do the right thing."He donated his entire mayoral salary to charity during his two terms as Mayor of North Bay. "He worked for $1 per year and donated the remaining salary, totaling $350,000, to various charities. "He provided an auditor's statement each year detailing these donations."His total personal donations during his time in public service reached approximately $1.5 million, including $550,000 to Canadore College, $500,000 to Nipissing University and $300,000 to the North Bay General Hospital and NBRHC."To fund the hospital from political office, he secured over $36.3 million while working as an MP for our riding.I think there are some delays in the LTC facilities you speak of that have to do with other people and factors. He's not one to shy away from anything. Far from it.

"Reports from The Washington Institute have alleged that up to 60% of Hamas’s annual budget, estimated at $12–14 million, flows from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia".

I really question a municipality needs a Safety and Well-Being Coordinator. This position has cost taxpayers $341,038 in 3 years. I would've preferred those funds go to fixing pot holes and snow removal.

This cove was North Bay's jewel, a true paradise. And so they put a pool . . . in a lake. All because one athlete from Tour de Trout wanted a place to swim because the YMCA was under renovations. And the dock is made out of polyethylene . . . in a lake that is our drinking water source."Polyethylene releases microplastics into water. It isn't biodegradable and resists microbial digestion, meaning it persists in aquatic environments rather than breaking down into soil or harmless organic matter. "Over time, physical factors such as UV radiation, wave action, and mechanical stress cause larger PE items to fragment into smaller particles. "These fragments become microplastics, which float or sink depending on their density and age. "Because PE is chemically stable and water-resistant, these microplastics accumulate in waterways where they can act as carriers for other pollutants like heavy metals."SMH

In the 2023-2024 academic year, the government introduced the Learn & Stay grant. That is likely the cause of the spike in private career colleges. They offer diplomas in shorter time-frames.The author seems to perceive wrongdoing when no wrong-doing exists. The province has been offering a free education to nurses, paramedics and lab technicians if they stay in Ontario. Shortly after this cohort was given free grants, doctors were added to the Learn & Stay grant if they practice here, as well. This was done to address the severe doctor shortage.I don't like Ford. But Sylvia Jones has been doing an admirable job.Data can be turned into whatever you want it to be. Statistics are massaged all the time by *think tanks* to frame political decisions as good or bad. It's all how you play with the numbers (and what you choose to leave out).

I'm just gobsmacked that the stag & doe Ford had at his place for his daughter isn't being investigated. How can this happen? It certainly seemed to me like a deliberate attempt to pay off a Premier in exchange for whoever contributed a high enough dollar amount via the envelopes given to the future bride & groom.I hope the RCMP look in to that. Because writing it off "she's a private citizen" [Ford's words] doesn't cut it for me.
