OrilliaMatters 18Reservation at a restaurant is NOT an event. When OPP advise to stay home and avoid unnecessary travel, an establishment if they choose not to offer a refund they definitely should offer the customer a different date. If you don’t want your new venture to end up like your “sunken ship tropical bar” you may want to change your policy. Customers, reviews and word of mouth pay your bills and fill your seats. The way you chose to handle this situation has probably cost you more lost revenue than this one reservation.

OrilliaMatters 10Why do we not place a tent community for the homeless in the City of Orillia parking lot and see how long the encampment lasts? They city councillors and staff will have no issues walking around garbage, discarded furniture, drug paraphernalia, fires, yelling, and being asked for change everyday on their way into the office.

Man's lengthy battle with city over backyard rink comes to an end
OrilliaMatters 10Pretty sad! What has happened to 🇨🇦 Canada? Unable to have a giant ice rink built in back yard for adults and children to enjoy in the winter. So much for being a hockey town. In the summer when people have kids and adults swimming and yelling in giant back yard pools that take up the majority of their yard …. No issues!! Imagine growing up and your dad built this in your back yard when you were young? It would have been amazing!!!! All the kids in the neighborhood would love it!! People, neighbours, council and the city really need to stay out of other peoples business especially when they are causing no harm. Everything going on in this country now and this is what the city chooses to enforce?I am going to hate to see what this county looks like even 10 years from now. 😱

OrilliaMatters 10You chose to shut down, you are refusing to pay the fee. Pay the fee if you want to continue your business. There are 365 days in a year even if you rent half of those days or less. It is your choice to charge $125 per night. You could always charge more at peak times. Weekends, summer, special events, folk festival, Scottish festival..etc. Charge less in the off season. Everyone else does it and it would off set the cost of the fee. Over a course of a year you should be able to afford the fee and if you are unable then you maybe need to re-evaluate your business strategy. As it is a business. Good luck.

North and West Zone school buses cancelled today
OrilliaMatters 6I don’t always agree with the bus cancellations, the roads are great but with the wind chill it would have been pretty cold for kids to be waiting outside for the buses this morning. Same with the kids walking to school. Yes kids should bundle up for the cold but honestly only ones bundling up are kids under age 12. 🥶

OrilliaMatters 5We used to be able to shoot coyotes, the coyote population is now too large and there are too many people with bleeding hearts! The coyotes are competing for food. Sorry no sympathy they need to be shot. Thank you to every farmer who shoots one that encroaches on their land.

OrilliaMatters 4Notice did not go out to parents regarding school closures till 7:20. ( yes bus cancellations were earlier but school cancellations were not) Some not till 9:00 due to technical difficulties they stated. Yes some students, parents and teachers were already at the schools. If possible everyone else who is in the workforce is expected to attend work. I understand some teachers may not be able to make it in but I am sure there would be enough in attendance to keep the schools open and run classes. My husband and myself both made it to work this morning and as seen as school was cancelled our teenager decided to go into work to make extra cash as well rather then sit at home.

OrilliaMatters 8Mike Borrelli put his heart and soul into this annual tournament. It will never return to Orillia. You have to be accommodating if you want to keep sporting events in the area. Orillia’s loss, Barrie’s win.
