Do you think people would have such a problem with these encampments if they didn’t leave needles all over, if they didn’t traffic drugs & humans, if they didn’t use the flower beds as a toilet, if they didn’t physically & verbally abuse people as they walked by, if they didn’t scare children, if they didn’t vomit and relieve themselves on sidewalks/doorways/business windows/the fountain/parking lots etc. This is NOT about not caring for the unhoused. It’s about wanting to feel safe walking down the street. And having CLEAN streets/sidewalks/trails!
If I'm being honest, my first thoughts were "tacky & lame".We've resorted to paying people to tell other's how wonderful Guelph is? It would be different if they were invited, came on their own, and shared their genuine impressions. But scripting them on what to say/do makes the whole thing feel like a puppet show.
This column was very hard to read. I’m not sure if it was written this way or if it was the way that it was posted. Maybe it’s because of my ADHD (🙃), but I had a hard time focussing with the run-on sentences, spelling errors, and other grammatical errors.
Because that’s what this area of guelph needs. MORE density. Hanlon/Paisley/Silvercreek absolutely need more traffic jams and congestion. Actually, NO area needs more. But this area is particularly bad
"The rationale for the baseball diamond loss is it is only booked two nights a week and used primarily by Special Olympics Guelph".....Excuse me...THIS IS RATIONAL!?! Are you kidding me!?!? First of all, other families & children use that baseball diamond on a regular basis (even if they don't officially book it. It's at a park!) and did they actually imply that it's ONLY used by Special Olympics so it's "OK" to remove the baseball diamond!?This area of the city is already dangerously condensed! Add the new supportive housing on willow, and a 6 storey apartment building at Willow West Mall AND another TWO 6 storey apartments being proposed for the corner of Willow Road and Dawson Road. This is ridiculous!
Well, how would you feel if you woke up every morning and there was vomit, urine and feces on your front door and windows? How would you feel if you woke up to broken windows every morning? How would you feel if your family and friends didn’t want to visit you anymore because they were afraid of being spit on, or verbally or physically attacked or have a meth pipe thrown at them, or have a needle thrown at them, or have lit cigarettes thrown at them? How would you feel if you woke up every morning and finding that somebody was on your property stealing things that you worked so hard for!? I’m pretty sure you would have a different opinion if you woke up to all of these things every single day.
Oh give me a break. Karma!? Because that was all Mr. Forbes doing!? Stay on topic. You want to preach about something that has NOTHING to do with this article, write your own article✌️
I stopped going to this particular branch because entering the vestibule was either terrifying (people under the influence verbally & physically assaulting myself and others) or disgusting (bodily fluids & paraphernalia)
Yes, you’re right. Our children should never have anything we never had. What did you type your comment on? A phone? A tablet? A laptop/PC? Did you grow up with one of those? Or did your parents? My guess, is no. But you have one today don’t you? Do you NEED one of those in your life? Of course not. But it sure helps doesn’t it? Why can’t our kids have something that we didn’t have? Why can’t our kids just have something that brings them fun/joy? Why can’t the kids learn to cooperate, to make decisions, to work with others on a new playground? Let the parents fight for something for their kids! And now THEIR kids will learn to fight for their own kids (or others) one day!
I run through the park at least once a week and the train is shut down quite frequently actually. I’m not sure why it happens so often. I don’t recall ever seeing the carrousel shut down tho…
