Over 4,000 tickets issued in Orillia as speed cameras nab fast drivers

Cue the “I was only going 4kms over” comments as they have been on Facebook posts. Funny though, you ask these people to prove what they are saying by posting a photo of the ticket at less than 10km over and they can’t. 🤦‍♂️

Money saving ideas:- Tell the County to get their budget under control and that Orillia isn’t going to increase its contribution- Tell the OPP to get their budget under control. The money we pay does not equate to the “service” we receiveMoney generating idea:- Enforce your bylaws. I know of at least one short term rental property that just keeps getting insignificant warnings instead of any type of significant monetary penalty

The question remains - who decided on the name change in the first place?!

Painting it John Deere green was probably the first mistake :-(

Maybe you didn’t read the article? It will in essence be the Provincial government that gets billed for the services. It’s an initial investment by municipal government. People complain about lousy access to service and then an idea is brought forward to improve it and there are still people complaining. Wild 🤦‍♂️

There is a missed opportunity here to show the opposite side of how some these Air BNBs have negative effects. A family member has to deal with 2 citiot real estate agents bought a home and now illegality house more than 12 people on a rotating basis in a small 2 bedroom home. The yard is constantly filled with garbage, the ditch is now non-existent because it’s been ripped apart by far more than the 3 vehicles that are properly able to use the driveway and the constant noise because of the revolving shift work and rotation of occupants has become atrocious. To date, the city hasn’t enforced their own new bylaw that we are aware of as the chaos continues. I’m all for people being able to use their property as they see fit, but some regulation is necessary if you’re going to be a landlord or short term hotelier

A silly comparison

Now can we reduce the amount of money spent on consultants when we have in-house staff that could take on a bunch of that work with their experience and education?

Interesting. Another example of staff being in charge of municipal affairs without input from the tax payer.

NIMBYs as far as the eye can see 🤦‍♂️ This looks like a great project on lands identified to be unable to grow crops. Whats the problem here?

You mean the encampments that have caused thousands for emergency fire services? The ones with needles left in them and on public trails? The ones that go buy drugs from the guy at the Silver Swan? 🤦‍♂️

Easy solution - get rid of the multiple school boards and teach religion at home.

Let’s generate some revenue by charging for parking at the waterfront - all those spaces are free. Last weekend 3 full coach busses dropped off people to use the park we pay to maintain and didn’t contribute a dime.

The city is on 2 lakes that freeze in the winter. We don’t need to waste money on a refrigerated trail or artificial ice rink. Stop the insanity

More failing infrastructure in Orillia? Who would have guessed 🤦‍♂️

Interesting note: before she departed for Severn, a city manager said the system was already beyond capacity in 2024 so how are we able to keep approving more home builds knowing full well the system can’t handle it? Also to Roger Young - snowmelt and rain during the spring isn’t an extraordinary situation, it’s normal every spring in Canada. The ice storm which followed might have been an unusual situation, but that was the second time most basements flooded because you still didn’t put proper precaution in place from the first incident of the season. Do your job.

😆 wait until you hear how much your fuel is subsidized!

Pretty simple solution: figure out exactly what time your child will be leaving school and then show up at that time to pick them up.

The quote below isn’t 100% factual! During the first event mid-March, which was rain and snow melt, the sewer couldn’t keep up and sewage was backing up even though the power never went out. If this is “normal”, I’d hate to experience a full blown failure. Be honest with residents Roger. “He added the city’s wastewater treatment centre functioned within capacity during normal spring runoff, but the ice storm, rapid melt, and torrential rain pushed the system beyond its limits.”
