Hmmm. We have the name of the subject officer, but not the name of the intoxicated person. This "incident" was more than a year ago. Was that person co-operating fully?
"... some of the clients will likely stay there only until their personal circumstances stabilize." My question to any homeless person is "What did you do today to make your tomorrow better?" Their circumstances will only stabilize when they work towards that happening.
It used to be that you bought a ticket to see a show. Now, with outlets such as TicketMaster, you pay for the show ticket PLUS a n additional fee to buy the show ticket. The auditorium used to sell their own tickets. Why is the extra fee leaving the city instead of paying an Auditorium employee?
Again I'd bet, just one assault against a judge or JP and the consequences would be much different. We need the courts to get tougher on this type of assault.
Won't the taxes on the booze be the same as in the LCBO? That's the part the government gets, so why would the revenue for health, education, etc. be any different?
Canada brought in 1.5 MILLION immigrants last year alone (not counting the illegals that have crashed our country) & now we're short of housing! Using space designated for parks can never be recouped later. Soon this country will look like the places many of these people left. We need some forward-thinking people making these decisions about spaces.
Pretty sad that we have to add police & security to places like hospitals & even libraries. But then, there is that woefully lax court system we're tolerating.
Good work on the part of the police. I do NOT expect anything equivalent from the court system. Law & justice seldom walk hand in hand in this province. Unless there are 8 empty jail cells, these people will be back in business within weeks.
"... the tenant must remit $11,314 to retain occupancy of the apartment, or she must give up possession" Excuse me, but shouldn't that be an order to pay the money AND be evicted? She owes just under $10 grand without the January rent.
Now comes the problem of actually trying to collect from the tenant. The law has no teeth whatsoever, and the collection is left to the winner of the judgement. From past experience, going to court is a waste of time & money. It will involve more money, more forms to complete and more time down the drain.
