New law makes landlords liable for drug activity, DSSAB awaiting clarity

As a landlord my defense would be to report any suspicion of illegal activity to the police and to serve the tenants with the appropriate Landlord and Tenant Board paperwork. Doing so will of course increase the workload of our police service and the already dysfunctional Landlord and Tenant Board.

How the heck did it get this far off track? Any competent project manager should have had some idea that the situation was critical long before it got to this stage. Unbelievable !

I don't know wether it is because of confidentiality or just poor reporting but we never seem to find out what these accusations actualy are. What I do see with my own eyes, living in downtown PA, gives me a large amount of respect for our police force in having to deal with our drug and mental health problems. The investigative attention should be turned towards the agencies who should be dealing with these problems.

Just another poor decision by our city council in addition to past poor planning of the residential developments. The problem is now shifted to other communities because of a few Nimby's who live adjacent to Dawson Road.

I guess that the Landlord and Tenant Board didn't give any consideration to the other tenants that have to endure noise and bad behavour.

Wow! Just go with the Integrity Commissioners recommendation and appoint a member that is interested enough to at least show up on time for meetings.

I have a real problem with this ruling. The intent to move into the unit by the landlord, landlords family member or caregiver was met. Since the application was filed in 2022 the situation could have changed slightly and the adjudicator should have considered that the slight variation could be due to the tardiness of the LTB. I also think that the Landlord acted in good faith and also gave the tenant 1 months rent compesation as required by the act.I am not surprised that no one wants to be a landlord any more.

I seem to remember that Canada first put tarrifs on Chinese EV's to appease the US. The US rewarded us by adding punitive tarriffs to our automotive products. How do you deal with an opponent who has no respect for past relationships and makes idiotic threats every day. Sorry Doug but it is time to move foreward and deal with players who show some respect.

Again it would be helpful to know the identity of this individual to protect any prospective future landlords from having to endure this criminal.

Total lack of respect for anything.

I don't think that you can blame the library for the declining fete of the shopping malls. The lack of private investment due to the high cost of retail space in malls has lead to their decline all over North America.Contrary to your opinion I believe that finding alternative uses for dying malls will prolong their life Some of the unused space could even be used for much needed human habitat.

Detox would be the better solution but at the moment you can not force addicts into Detox. They have to want to and agree to treatment. That is why I think that the recipients of welfare should be periodically tested and offered Detox treatment in order to be entitled to further benefits, if they fail the test. I know some are going to say that they are not all addicts but those who aren't would have nothing to fear. I don't think that our hard earned tax dollars should be feeding the drug dealers. One thing for sure is that the current system is not working and is having a huge impact on all of our daily lives and public services.

Does very little to help me as a consumer but it just shows how out of touch this government is with the day to day reality of Canadian life.

Probably not the prettiest location but it is in an area that seems to be preffered by the homeless. and is close to the food bank.Overall temporary shelters are a poor solution to the problem and I hope that it does not delay the city fin inding a more perminant solution. No timeline seems to exist as to the implmentation or expected duration of the encampment which make me doubtful that the city administration have a plan at all.

Having the Alshom plant do well is good for Thunder Bay but they need to be more competative and find other customers. They need to stop relying on Toronto and the feds corporate welfare to survive.

As a contrast to Ontario's fragmented and poorly served public transit. BC Transit, a pulicly funded organization, is extreemly succesfull and operates an integrated transit system across the lower mainland of BC. So far the private sector has failed to provide service in Ontario and little has happened since the departure of Greyhound.

I doubt that the parking fees do little more than provide employment for a few city employees.

Seems to be a lack of due diligence on the part of the staff. I think that any responsible adult would have phoned for Paramedic to check her condition,
