For gawd sakes Terry, you can stop trying to prove that you are a vacuous, empty vessel. You are.Carney's "speech" was nonsense and Sheehan's cheerleading is tiresome.
Whenever I see Terry Sheehan I know that the entire article will be regurgitated Liberal talking points. This man is a hollow vessel, much like his last boss (Trudeau) was. Not an original thought in his head. Just give him a script, and let him spew nonsense. The Carney Liberal budget is a joke. It puts a greater burden on all of us and provides no real benefit for any of us. It continues the plan to erode the middle class. But Sheehan says its good for us, so someone cue the bobble heads and clapping seals.
The over-used refrain of the most guilt ridden individuals today is "I'm being bullied", thereby trying to make themselves the victim. In a story that so far has indicated that "some" councillors use their phones and PDAs while in Council meetings, which meets they aren't properly attending to TAXPAYER business (which they are paid for), Caputo seems awfully defensive. If this is such a "nothing burger", why is she so concerned? The job of journalists is to expose the story, wherever it leads. Most politicians these days, including some local ones it seems, would rather that the media shut up and help politicians hide the truth from TAXPAYERS. Soo Today gave Caputo a chance to respond; she chose not to speak with them, but to write some diatribe on Facebook criticising them. That is her right, but it doesn't help her. Nor does it make her look like she has nothing to hide.
Doug Ford is a Liberal shill. He spends more taxpayer dollars than either. Wynne or McGuinty,Ford believes that he can sabotage the Federal Conservatives and Poilievre and then become leader of the Federal party - and then Prime Minister. Doug Ford is a charlatan and I will never vote for him again after being fooled by him once. We need to vote for real Conservatives in Ontario - and that isn't Ford.
That's a good start.Strict enforcement is the only way to solve this problem. As usual a few bad operators ruin it for everyone else.Stay off private property and get rid of the loud exhausts - or pay the price!
Yet again, Shoemaker shows his lack of financial depth. Why do "progressives" like him constantly, and by that I mean ALWAYS, seem oblivious to the fact that there is only one source of funding - the TAXPAYER.He prattles on about getting the federal or provincial "government" to provide the required funding for this and other projects. But there is only one taxpayer, and when it comes time, that taxpayer will foot the bill, no matter which level of government writes the cheque. The more important issue should be "is the landfill the best waste disposal alternative"? How about incineration as an option? Europe uses incineration and those operations can also produce energy. Surely those are the things that should be studied and acted upon, rather than just waiting for some other level of government to get into the taxpayers' pocket. Its just robbing Peter to pay Paul.
First and foremost, this is NOT "free" dental care. Somebody has to pay for it. Taxpayers pay for this. There is no such thing as "free" - not this program, not healthcare, not pharmacare, not anything! Can people, especially the media please stop referring to these things as "free".There is no free lunch - somebody always has to pick up the tab.
Here we have an issue that effects virtually every household in the Soo - what does that add up to? 10,000 homes? 15,000? more? And how many residents are impacted? 50.000? 70,000?By any measure its a large percentage of households and people. The City went out of its way to spend, and commit for future spending, a large amount of money to, as they claimed, save about 400 daycare spaces and about 2,000 YMCA memberships. But for some reason, the City seems devoid of ideas, or money apparently, that can help a much larger number of citizens deal with an issue that potentially effects their safety and health. Having to remove these ice banks and heavy windrows from driveways by hand is exhausting and could actually kill people. The City managers, from the Mayor on down, needs to get their priorities straight - or they need to be replaced in the next election.Spend money where it will aid the greatest number of citizens. Solutions are there; the City just has to apply them.
I don't understand the false argument here that somehow, the City (i.e the TAXPAYERS) would have to pay more if the YMCA closed? The Y is a private business. it was badly managed, for years. It offers some daycare spaces. Those spaces are not the responsibility of the TAXPAYER. Let another private business hire the daycare staff and provide that service - apparently according to an earlier article there was some "unused capacity" at other facilities who just didn't have the staff needed for more children. But in any event this is not the TAXPAYER's problem. Further, it seems totally irresponsible to me to essentially give a blank cheque to the new, anonymous, purchaser to repair the building. And all this with still ZERO transparency on how this situation became a crisis. Does anyone in charge have any common sense?
In typical Carney fashion, we get a lot of fiscal bafflegab. The budget apparently preaches "fiscal discipline" while adding roughly an $80 billion deficit and no "balanced budget" in sight - something promised 10 years ago by the Liberals. This is the highest (non-covid) addition to the public debt -EVER! More than either Trudeau in any of their years of irresponsible debt and deficit spending. But, that's Liberal fiscal discipline. A synonym for "discipline" is punishment.Taxpayers, especially young taxpayers, prepare to be punished for all your working lives. They will tell you you'll get a middle class tax cut, but they'll figure out how to hide a tax increase somewhere, to offset that. Someone will eventually have to pay for the Liberal's deficit spending. Even if the fiscally illiterate Liberals don't think so - or don't care, which is probably more truthful. The money tree will be bare one day and then it will be easy to see the pigeons, coming home to roost.
Don't apologize because you did nothing wrong. If the Mayor, Council , CAO and bureaucrats are that thin skinned, then they should get out of government.Besides, what Councillor Kinach said is what taxpayers want - TRANSPARENCY and responsible spending of taxpayer money.
Enough with the waste by this Council. Taxpayer dollars should be precious but to this lot, they are not. I understand that they don't read or heed comments in this or other media, Then they may be surprised when an article appears after the next election announcing (hopefully) that most of them are out of a job.
I don't think Caputo knows what she is talking about. The irony is that her "higher standards" seems to involve taking shots at fellow councillors from her private Facebook page.Further, the Mayor does not belong on any Committee and as for "citizens" being "selected" for the Police Services Board. Nuala Kenney is far from a normal citizen, having been former city Solicitor and if nothing else, certainly appears to be in a conflict of interest position. As for Caputo, almost everything she says makes a mockery of city government.
After 10 years of Liberal policies that favoured criminals over victims, suddenly they have another epiphany. They want to enact "new" policies to curb crime. Its a joke. There are already laws and policies on the books - they just need to be enforced and judges need to be given the message that "catch and release" is no longer acceptable. But that wouldn't result in a photo-op or press release from Terry or Carney. And that is really what these "policy" announcements are all about - just a distraction from the Liberal do nothing but promise everything approach. Just like "Elbows up" - a catchy, but meaningless platitude to whip up the low information voters.
Stood up for democracy? He's either delusional or obtuse, or both.Freeland abused her power under the Anti Money Laundering legislation to seize assets and freeze people's bank accounts, simply for participating in THEIR democratic right to protest or to support a peaceful protest. Freeland completely overreacted and tried to ruin people with whom she and her boss, Junior Trudeau, politically disagreed. And all because the big baby Trudeau didn't like the fact that the protests mocked him and wouldn't go speak to the protestors. Well, he deserved it.But to say that Freeland always supported democracy is a terrible distortion of the facts. And that's not the only example. Where was she while Trudeau was ousting Wilson-Raybould or Philpott simply for having the gall to speak their mind - something in a democracy we call "having an opinion". This is why I can't stand the sight of Sheehan - a spineless shill.
Just a few questions:Somebody at the City and/or the Y must have done the math on these issues.Let's say the 1,000 "additional" members don't materialize - Will the Deal still close to have the new purchaser buy the building? Will the Y be able to pay the rent over the 10 year lease or will TAXPAYERS be on the hook for any shortfall? If so how much? Will the Y be able to afford repairs/upgrades to the building under the conditions of the lease? If not, what is the cost estimates for repairs/upgrades that TAXPAYERS will have to fund?Since the additional 1,000 members is only to get back to "pre-closure" membership figures, and not "pre-Covid" figures, is the Y really viable long-term if it doesn't get back to "pre=Covid" numbers? And by the way, TAXPAYERS should still be told what the reason(s) for this "crisis" was in the first place.
Just moved back to the Soo after many years away. Been downtown for a variety of things in the past month. It is a disaster. Getting to downtown on a bicycle or walking there is a non starter. The woonerf concept, which is a thing that works in Amsterdam because of how that city is designed, is not going to work here. Stop trying to force these "solutions" into the Soo's situation. It is a boondoggle. You are not going to get a large pedestrian or bicycle contingent into that downtown area, and making it harder for vehicles to get around downtown will only keep more people away from the remaining businesses in the area.
Let's guarantee an income for everyone, all the time. Oh wait, that's not possible because then no one will work and no one would pay taxes. As usual the socialist's idea works perfectly, until they run out of other people's money.
It is amazing to me how many Canadians like to dump on successful Canadians. GFL and Dovigi don't "owe" us anything. GFL provides a service and creates local jobs. These are the same complainers who willingly buy their things from Amazon and Walmart, who own mostly things that say "made in China" or "made in Viet Nam".They are also the same people who voted for 10 plus years of Liberal governments, even after Junior Trudeau said that he wanted to keep Canadian resources in the ground (which helped to make us a poorer nation over that period). And they are the same people who supported Trudeau and Carney even after they clearly stated they wanted Canada to be a "post national state", which means giving up our sovreignty to be part of the WEF and "one world government".All the people who work locally for GFL still live here and pay taxes here, so give it a rest.
