North Bay mayoral candidates reflect on election loss

Lowery complaining about negativity during the campaign is rather ironic. He certainly didn't mind contributing to it himself.Remember the grand promise to move Northern Pines? He guaranteed a move while the location, funding, leases and approvals remained unresolved publicly. Then came the attacks on Al McDonald, the "old boys' club" rhetoric and portraying Horsfield as the status quo. Voters were entitled to question those claims. That's accountability, not negativity. As for those complaining about voter turnout, some historical perspective wouldn't hurt. North Bay's turnout actually increased from 38.27% in 2022 to 38.83% in 2026, with 2,170 more ballots cast. It's still low, but hardly an unprecedented collapse. And the suggestion that people who didn't vote have no right to criticize City Hall is nonsense. Democracy doesn't end at the ballot box, and accountability isn't reserved for those who voted.
