The big rant is nothing more than a huge mis-direction to take peoples' mind of the other disasters unfolding under his "leadership". Health care, housing, environment, education etc.Electing judges sounds great, but what does it really mean? It means Ford wants to politicize the appointment of judges to bring it under his control and to turn it into a partisan battleground. Just like it is in the US. Just like he's trying to do with strong mayor powers - another copy of dysfunctional US institutions. There's no benefit to the community, only to big money who want to control everything and who use Doug Ford as their populist front man.In general judges do an excellent job working in an antiquated, overloaded and grossly under-resourced justice system that cannot possibly deliver what its supposed to. Partisan politics will not fix this.
The numbers aren't surprising. Nobody on the planet believes Doug Fords lies about why he's calling the election. The party faithful will toe the lie of course, but the rest of us aren't stupid enough to believe it. It's a waste of $200 million bucks on a power grab. Plain and simple.
Your memory is defective JJ. Or inventive. Prior to the US election in November the vast majority of polls said it was too close to call. Here's an interesting article. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cj4x71znwxdoAlthough last November here polls were showing a commanding lead for Poilievre, who seemed to be a shoo-in for next Prime Minister. Maybe they're as inaccurate as you say.I don't buy this conspiracy theory about Village Media's liberal bias. "As we all know" lol! Just the usual right wing trash-talking about news media.
I don't like my tax money being wasted on an utterly unnecessary election. This "mandate" thing is pure baloney, and everyone knows it.I'd rather see the election held at its scheduled date. That way if Doug is doing a lousy job dealing with Trump we can get rid of him, and if he's doing a great job he can win a third term. Why commit to another 4 years now?
The deficit and the carbon tax are Trudeau policies. The Finance minister can't control the Prime minister's decisions. You may have noticed she recently resigned her position due to Trudeau's policies. For instance who would you blame for Ontario going into debt a further $3 Billion to mail out vote-buying cheques? Doug Ford or his Finance Minister? (Bet you can't name the FM without looking it up)
Whether Ford insists or not, the claim he needs an election to get a mandate is a lie. Pure and simple. And just cuz you say it over and over doesn't make it the truth. We all know what the truth is.
Chump change for President Musk. He couldn't care less about $100 million. This is a futile gesture that only hurts people in remote communities. The money (and more) will just end up in the hands of Rogers and Bell anyway.
Russia has a very radical and strong leader. Are Russians better off? It's great if you're an Oligarch I suppose. The rest of them don't have much say in determining their own fates - its "do what you're told or be killed".
"Catch and Release" is catchy Tory narrative. It has nothing to do with "liberal policies" or Trudeau. The reason so many are released is so many cases don't get to trial because of lack of capacity, and even if they are convicted the jails are all full. There's nowhere to put anyone so they end up back out on the street. When they do go to jail they get early parole to make room for the new ones. Why don't we have enough judges? Why don't we have IT in courtrooms? Why don't we have enough jails? Why aren't we teaching inmates new skills so they can re-enter society as productive members? These issues are the responsibility of the Provincial government: Doug Ford. Call him what you like, he was elected by conservative people in Ontario.
The Mayor wasn't even here for the start of the emergency, he was in Florida. We seemed to muddle through the first couple of days just fine. I challenge the Mayor to point to some action that he took with regards to the emergency that couldn't have happened without the strong mayor powers.
