This puts the Federal government in an interesting position. Are we in a climate crisis and need to get rid of fossil fuel use as quick as we can. Cheaper options would certainly speed things up. Or do they add a tariff and keep people in their gas powered cars.
It is only going to get worse. My property taxes went up $120 a month and the city wants the same increase each year over the next 4 years. The carbon tax on the farmers, distributers, transportation and the retailers is all being passed onto the consumer. Utilities' are all rising as well. The middle class are desperately trying to stay a float. You think homelessness is bad now, just wait 5 years.
Soccer mom you must one of the few Canadians whose income is so high that you do not need to worry about paying taxes. Unless things change my Municipal taxes alone will increase by $500 a month over the next 4 years. These increases will cause many to lose or have to sell their houses. Those people will need to go into an already short on supply rental market or into a tent. Shame on you for wanting to see hard working people lose everything.
The only NIMBY that goes on is this city is shove it downtown so the rest of us don't have to deal with it in our neighborhood. The homeless live in all areas of the city so we should spread out the support as well.
That was my point. If the government truly believes we are in a climate crisis they would be filling the roads with these EV's not making it more difficult to purchase. Lets see which way they go.
I have been bitten by a dog on the trails more than once. Always by an unleashed dog. I passed this man and his dogs more than once and never had them lunge at me. On the occasions I saw his dogs act aggressively it was with other dogs but they were always on a leash and muzzled. I would trust him more than the "oh my dog has never done that before" owner.
Clearly the letter writer knows nothing about the history of lacrosse in Elora or this country for that matter, The name was chosen to honor the Indigenous people for sharing the creators game with them. If the visiting Indigenous teams were truly offended by the name it would have been changed long ago,
If they are going to set goals like that, why not set a goal of reducing municipal taxes by 50% 2030 and 75% by 2050. These goals are just as realistic as their climate goals.
While I can sympathies with what the tenants fears this has more to do with the state of the current real estate market more than "greed". There is a 4 plex for sale near me and the owner is asking current market value. All units are rented for well below current rental rates, If a new owner were to purchase the building the current rent would only cover about 50% of the mortgage. Anyone who would purchase this without any other way to generate more income from the property would lose their shirt on this property.
