Doug Ford, with his last three majority provincial governments, has created a non-democratic situation with his strong mayor powers. Strong Mayor Powers in the hands of too many Mayors is making our provincial and municipal governments ineffective and undemocratic. Mayor Don McIsaac has proved the point. Mayors will abuse their authority under these Powers. The council will become ineffective as they have lost respect for the Mayor. This will cost the City hundreds of thousands of dollars. It puts the former CAO Lee and the present CAO Sidhu in embarrassing situations. Don McIsaac must resign immediately.
I do not understand the provincial government's illogical decision to terminate the use of speed cameras. The speed limits are posted. They are the LAW. Running red lights is also illegal. Speeding on highways and stunt driving are also illegal. Doug Ford is looking to maintain his Conservative support. I guess our children and human road kill are less important than illegal speeding. Too many unacceptable decisions by this provincial government for me to support Ford and his minions.
I am opposed to the City of Orillia and the OPP using the American platform owned by Musk. Why would a Canadian institution use X after the USA is treating Canada so badly? The reasoning that the burcracyies are using is a very lazy logic for excuses. The users who follow X would find what they are looking for on the other platforms.
I have seen structures (backyard sheds) built in backyards that do not meet so called by-law standards. I see double driveways installed, yet they were allowed to be built. The city's beauacracy drags out whatever by-laws they can find to satisfy complaints or homeowners. It's Hallowe'en folks! The family is trying to give children some enjoyment and trying to provide spectators an oppportunity to give to The Sharing Place. Now we have the City playing The hallowe'en Grinch.
Strong Mayor Powers should be rescinded. These powers are being abused because they are used by dominant self-serving mayors who use them for reasons outside of the purview of the original reasons for which the provincial government intended. Example: The Mayor of Orillia for reasons kept confidential. No transparency encroaching on democracy.
It does not surprise me that Georgian and the other post secondary institutions are laying off employees. The provincial government has, for far too long, depended on international students for funding as they had to pay triple the tuition and living expenses. Ford's government saw the very shameful use of these students to support his lack of funding. He wants to privatize our world class health care and our education just like Trump is doing to Canada.Ford has demanded his minions not to face their employers (the people of Ontario) to answer during public forums. He is controlling his MPP’s like a dictator. Running to the USA has accomplished nothing. He seems to like Trump by his comments. Shame! Also, I wonder the percentage relationship between teaching faculty and administration affected.
We live in a community that is affected by winter snow squalls off Georgian Bay maybe two or three times during the winter season. Some people are never satisfied about the status quo, and complain about everything without understanding the situation. Our street was cleared, and the sidewalk cleared also in a timely fachion. Kudos to the employees who worked to clear the streets and sidewalks,
"For us there's no distinction," said Lecce, the former education minister, last week when asked about the concern of Catholic boards possibly getting more spaces.”Solution is simple: Amalgamate the school boards into one. The duplicity of services is costly and wrong. It’s time Ontario did as Quebec did, but the politicians are to afraid of losing their jobs.
It seems that the builders continue to squeeze family homes on narrow lots. Families with more that one car are at a disadvantage. Poor planning and building developments.
Ford and Jones hide and make their minions answer with talk, talk, talk. How much is it costing the government to provide the healthcare surgical clinics in relation to what is costs the hospitals to do the same procedure? The provincial government hides the answer. More money to health care is required, but Ford is too concerned about loading the pockets of his friends by insisting that beer be sold in convenient stores, that Ontario Place be sold to a wealthy off-shore developer and that 413 be constructed for billions and billions. But Ontario voted him in with a majority, so we are stuck with a government to do as it pleases. Now they are out of the legislature until late October.
