He asked for a report on how to reduce consultant costs and got one that said all consultant costs were justified. City staff need to start doing what they are instructed to by council resolutions. I support councillor Kinach!
How is it possible that the Board would not be aware of overtime costs and staffing levels until February? They are the governing body! Someone should resign!
As long as the emissions continue to decrease we should support them. It is frustrating to see those who earned a living because the plant existed now complain while collecting their teachers pension!
The large amount of money the city is often over or under budget indicates a poor ability to properly estimate the cost of projects. This is not a windfall but rather an example of poor performance by staff. There is no savings but rather the cost was less than they projected and budgeted for.
It is also the law to have two people in the boat when pulling a skier or tube. Hope he was charged! I see this way too often, especially with jet skis. Why would someone put their kids at risk like this?
When will these councillors learn that trying to increase the population and downsizing parking and roadway lanes are in direct opposition to each other. Make up your minds! Which do you want? I can’t believe the consultant actually said not having enough parking downtown would be a good problem to have! Who hires these nuts?
From these comments is appears people want to know more about the failure of the police Services Board related to their budget. The Board chair deferred most questions and promised to get back on many, including “how did this happen”! Please follow up on this issue of importance to the community. This is a massive failure that will cost all citizens and requires answers as to how it happened, who knew what and when etc. I would support a third party review as some councillors suggested.
As a member of the Police Board I suggest you spend your time advising the community how you and your colleagues allowed these costs (staffing levels and overtime) to get so far out of hand and why they are not monitored on a closer basis by the board rather then complaining about council. People who live in glass houses……
I believe the flags we fly at city hall are representative of the countries our citizens are descendants of. If that is true then the US flag should stay since it is not flown to recognize and support the USA as a country but rather the citizens of our city who come from there.
The city solicitor,Ms Fields, raised the issue of someone living in a First Nation community as being potentially systemic discrimination not someone who lived out of town in general. Council made the right decision tonight thanks to the Mayor clarifying we would not want someone who resided in Toronto or Ottawa holding a senior management role.
