Come spring it will be too rainy. Come summer too hot?Is this a result of being ordered back to work?Canada Post is forcing us to find alternative methods. I just read an article about economics in Financial Post that says "rule of thumb that government spends twice as much to do anything as the private sector would".
OSAP has been abused. Why should some families scrimp and save for a post secondary education for their kid(s), while others "live it up" and then cry that they can't afford to send a kid to school and that it should be the tax payers responsibility. I resent that.
My grandfather used to get fresh drinking water from the spring in Victoria Park before as I understand it, the County Fair plaza development led to it being sealed off. I walk through Victoria Park frequently and it seems the natural elements are a force to be reckoned with as in the last few years the ground is so wet that the grass can't be cut in spots and water is trickling over the sidewalk now. I loved that fresh spring water. Maybe we should open it again!
I spoke with an individual that stated he came to Orillia from Alliston because word has it that Orillia provides more resources "for those living on the street" than other communities. Last summer a woman told me she moved here from Barrie for the same reason. Does the Lighthouse serve Orillia residents who have fallen on hard times or anyone that decides to move here because of it?Furthermore getting to the root cause of these problems may be better than dealing with them after they happen...but a huge challenge that needs support from all layers of government and society.
About two weeks ago I observed an individual from a group of three at that location intentionally damage a woman's car as she turned onto Peter St. She parked up the street and walked back to confront the male individual responsible but he ignored her and walked away. Perhaps she is one that complained. I would too!
Are assumptions being made that City of Orillia owned that parking lot...or has it privately owned? Just wondering. If it has been privately owned would it not be an overreach for the City of Orillia to say it must remain a parking lot?
I've made a point of looking at the vehicles parked at the park and a coach trying to maneuver Terry Fox Circle about three weeks back (another commentor saw three coaches) and they are not from a neighbouring cities or township. Many or perhaps most are from the GTA. I have also been watching to see who has any takeout that may have been purchased here or even groceries purchased here...but it appears every last item hauled out of the trunk was brought from home and not a cent put into our local economy. As the letter to the editor said we are left with the cost of their garbage disposal, but they also use the bathrooms. I also saw three men filling containers for cooking at the water bottle filling station while I waited and waited to fill my water bottle. Nothing is for free, everyone knows that, so those that don't contribute to the taxes that support the park should have to pay a user fee. The coaches should pay a hefty sum.
