‘Something special’: This is a big moment for Canadian tourism

And incompetent liberal governments to drive our dollar down to $0.73! This is Canada’s hidden tariff on everything - brought to you by Mark Carney - elbows up indeed.

Shouldn’t informing the public be an integral part of the control strategy?Instead our leaders want to keep it a secret

Interesting. Another example of the serious harm caused to the environment by bike lanes.

Why is the landlord involved in this? Is the landlord responsible for the tenant’s car payments too?One solution to ease the so called housing crisis is to reduce the risk of being a landlord - something the city can easily do on many fronts.

You are right. Trump has very little to do with it. We are losing a good manufacturing company with a highly skilled workforce.

We want to do everything we can to discourage landlords from improving their properties.

Eliminate bike lanes

Any conflicts of interest created by keeping these locations secret?

The city had at least 6 months to prepare and 7 months to execute. It’s a good thing we don’t rely on them for anything essential.

We should get rid of bike lanes and the two bylaw officers. Bike lanes cost too much and are bad for the environment.

Many people have forgotten the Trudeau government reduced or eliminated mandatory prison terms for some gun crimes.

Another useless tax grab from a council that is out of ideas. How will this be controlled? The city is going to employ empty home investigators? How I use my house is none of the city’s business.

Why have I never seen data that show speeds under 50 km/hr present a danger to the public? None of the proposed measures will stop motorists running red left turn signals and stop signs . How many injuries will result from traffic cushions (obstructions) and barriers? Again no data. Council and many of my fellow Guelphites base their decisions on emotion not logic. The money spent on slowing down traffic would be better spent on improving intersection sight lines, teaching school children bike safety, and training Guelph transit drivers what to do at a stop sign (it’s not a “slow down” sign!)

3.2 million dollars was taken out of our community and produced no benefit: there was no discernible change in the accident rate.In return we received just over $300,00. Some people can’t even manage a proper cash grab.

Guthrie was often the lone voice on a council composed mainly of fuzzy thinking leftists. We have only ourselves to blame for the dismal condition of Guelph we see all around us (see the many comments above and below)Thank you for your service Mr. Guthrie; I will likely miss you even more once we see your successor

I wish our council would focus on running the city efficiently instead of inventing problems and up with new tax grabs to solve them. If an owner has an unused $500,000 property, the city wants to charge $40,000 on top of the ever increasing property tax he already pays. Property taxes are regressive and do not consider the owners ability to pay (unlike income tax). Also, an exemption process would now place an owner at the mercy of city bureaucrats - the newly formed Empty House Inspection Department-who are more interested in preserving a revenue stream rather than giving a property owner a break. Enough of this nonsense council!

Why are we wasting our time reusing beer bottles (it's not recycling people! ) ? All other glass currently goes into blue bins and gets recycled, why not alcohol bottles? . As for beer cans, they get melted whether they go back to the beer store or in you recycling bin.

Why not cut the bylaw officer positions AND not plow unused bike lanes? Our city chooses not to control spending.

Get rid of the ward system and go back to councillors at large. Why does a councillor that received less than 1400 votes in a very small region of Guelph (Michele Richardson for example) have equal input on a decision that affects the whole city?
