Real Tradesman if you are in fact in the trades you must realize that you are one life changing injury or physical health problem away from mental health issues, addiction, wsib and possibly homelessness due to severely reduced income. I support social causes because I'm fully aware that anyone's life can drastically change for the worse including my own.
Could it be a possibility that 'anti woke' comedy isn't really that important to the majority of individuals in this city?Hate often disguises itself as Freedom of Speech. Colonialism with a Smile.
TaxedtodeathinTB...how many of your ancestors were not residents of Turtle Island on their arrival here? You should keep that fact in mind before sharing your 'insights' about this situation.
Dee RickThe youth need to be educated regarding their legal rights as a necessity of their survival especially in the City of Thunder Bay which is Ground Zero for Indigenous racism. The reality is Indigenous individuals are targeted in this community and are only 'guilty' of being 'Indigenous in a Public Place' with no crime being committed. I have yet to meet an Indigenous individual who doesn't have a story about being shadowed by security while shopping or suffering some type of racist stupidity while out in public. I am 6'1" and have shoulder length hair and I am a retired law enforcement officer, visibly Indigenous. I am followed by security all the time for my appearance alone. I know this because when they finally get up the courage to confront me I say 'before you interfere with my business or attempt to detain me I need to you to articulate your reasonable grounds to detain me and as a retired LOE I'm going to start taking notes.'
Taxesupagain...A very interesting take on individuals who are 'burdens to society' and individuals who are 'less than human' (by your standards).Committing individuals involuntarily to facilities and camps. And when the government authorities start rounding up these individuals, who will stop them from taking you, your family and friends when you are all deemed to be undesirable in society due to beliefs or actions which oppose that regime's expectations?
Chief Fleury himself should know that police officers who are always working on understaffed units, having overwhelming demand call loads, with no management support are suffering from huge amounts of stress and in turn PTSD issues which result from the related impacts of those unresolved employment conditions. Chief Fleury be a proactive and not a reactive leader. Employee Assistance Programs are useless if you don't try to resolve the issues that get your people there in the first place.
JS, so you are believing that if you are Indigenous and responding to the survey and are not satisfied with the police relationship with the Indigenous people that they are serving, those people must all be 'criminals', as 'good' people are always satisfied with their relationship with the police. Your perspective lacks critical thought.
Jonathan Simkins Everybuddy knows what he's talking about. Two of his brothers are retired cops. Never been charged criminally or police act charges. There is a code or at least there was. Only cowards or bullies would assault drunks or an individual in cuffs to the point that they suffered injury. Intoxicated individuals have the reaction time of someone fighting underwater. Intoxicated individuals actually telegraph their punches to provide you with plenty of reaction time. You'd know that if you educated yourself, JS.
First you read an article, a chapter or an entire novel or textbook carefully and entirely, take the time to understand what the message is even if you don't agree with that perspective shared in the material. Secondly you then comment. What I take away from the article is what the students see as hypocrisy, their university can't be 'green' and take sponsorship and build relationships with individuals, industries, businesses and organizations whose practices to them appear to be unethical in regards to natural resource extraction and production. I believe that the students are supportive of ethical sourcing and extracting natural resources including oil but not at the expense of Mother Earth and Her guardians, the Indigenous peoples and their Allies. It's a natural part of individual growth and development to question and learn from those experiences. That's how we develop our personal ethics and our moral compass.
joy joyThis is the way our society works. The fit and healthy pay for the poor fitness and health choices others make. Individuals who are privileged enough to have shelter, food, no mental health or substance issues pay for the ones that don't have those advantages. Individuals who are excellent drivers pay for the stupidity of poor drivers. Young and strong individuals pay for the care of the old and infirm. The examples are numerous. Even you joy joy, might be knocked off your throne one day and served a big serving of humility due to loss of housing, employment, a chronic health issue, a work place injury, a substance issue or the death of a loved one. Hopefully if misfortune should visit you, you are met with kindness and not judgement and hostility. If you spent time amongst the marginalized you might find their lives were a lot like yours before their lives took a turn.
Instead of an empty gesture of reconciliation such as this one, why doesn't Chief Fleury address the outstanding Hunan Rights complaints made by TBPS employees that have yet to be resolved during his tenure here, as they are his responsibility now. I would imagine that would be a true act of reconciliation and an action that would help to begin to build the fractured relationship with the local Indigenous community.
Walter Stock read my comment again. I don't hate, I don't respect individuals that hate. Are you able to grasp the concept? That's not hypocrisy. That's advocacy.
