And does that justify doing it?

Tried in Oro-Medonte with dummy cruiser - ignored and ineffective after day #1.

He's leaving alright, stop kicking a dead horse and get ready for what BRUTUS will deliver after his tiring back stabbing. Move on.

CLEARLY the cause of all of this is the Ford government's encouragement of sprawl to provide (not necessarily affordable) housing for a declining population and with the cost of losing agricultural land. The negotiating process was a sham as the outcome was predetermined and purely political. Another example of Ford's disregard for rural people and places. He's no less a bully than Trump and just as thick. HOW pray tell do these buffoons get elected, even worse re-elected?

"Council recently gave staff the NOD to explore a variety of revenue-generating possibilities." Shame on this Council and other municipalities who are so desperate due to over spending that they stoop so low. Why not put street names up for bids or even the city name itself!?

“The pothole in question was repaired on April 29, 2025,” Remm confirmed. “Once the city is aware of a pothole that meets the criteria for repair, it must be repaired within the time frame defined by MMS, ranging from four to 30 days depending on the classification of the road.” IN THE MEANTIME the City should at the very least place pylons at the pothole locations to warn motorists.

Peter St. has gradually become the art centre for Orillia. In many cities like New York (Greenwhich), Toronto (Queen St. WEST) , creative people seek places in which they can affordably do their work and live. These districts are typically old buildings considered by many to be "eyesores" until they become culturally interesting to people and gentrification sets in with galleries, boutiques, pubs, restaurants, music, shopping. Then rents soar and and the current inhabitants are displaced. The Peter St. Arts District is coming of age through Starry Nights and Streets Alive. Let's hope Mr. Pitcher's "modern, architectural beautiful" plans do not destroy that culturally important fibre. The content is often more significant than the packaging.

It looks like you're starting your own debate WW. Not all of the cameras are located in school zones. The cameras are intended to discourage speeders in safety zones and they do that. Common sense says we can't have police in areas of concern 24/7/365. They're looking after issues like stolen cars and home invasions. Minorities are often grass roots folks who try to tell our government what is needed. Ford wasn't elected by a majority he was re-elected because of too many people didn't vote and his personal opinions don't represents the majority of the population.

@Brad Mathews. Working people definitely deserve a decent wage and a pension with contributions shared with their employer. If you could divide the salary of your average MPP by their actual hours worked you might be surprised as to what their hourly rate is. How does that compare to the hourly rate for the average working stiff and as Grouchy stated the minimum wage set by the provincial government. When it comes to the value of an individuals work do you remember years ago the government tried to establish appropriate wages for comparably valued work? Time spent "working" doesn't necessarily reflect its value does it? Me thinks more a question of quality over quantity particularly when it comes to the representation and contribution that some MPPs provide to those who elected them.

Would be interesting and more transparent if the provincial government disclosed what other criteria besides a 5 member Council justify the granting of strong mayor power. Could political party affiliation have any bearing on that decision?

You're a saint WW. If a pedestrian tripped and was seriously injured what would your common sense answer be - watch where they're going too? Wasn't that long ago that the sidewalk paving stones along Mississaga St. were heaving and folks were tripping. How long did it take the city to fix that situation? I believe it's called preventative maintenance.

More than icky - pathetic. Most if not all of the facilities referred to were paid for by taxpayers. Some are already named to honour someone deserving NOT someone who bought the quantified right to have their name put on them. Does everything have a price, even space? And yet we tell Trump CANADA IS NOT FOR SALE! A pathetic and desperate idea Orillia.

A great personal challenge in support of a great organization and cause. I suggest a different choice of cycling jersey if you're looking for more Canadian GoFundMe support. Wink, nudge.

IF WE filled the potholes with disclaimer policies and politicians promises they would still be empty.

Community safety YES, but safety from what harm and harm committed by whom? The Ford government reaction is to increase spending on police and equipment in major crime centres. Meanwhile paying lip service to education and health care services. Hey Doug, there's a big world outside of the GTA that also has needs. We have an MPP whose new title is Minister of Emergency Preparedness and Response and a major OPP Headquarters and yet public safety is priority #1 in Orillia. Doesn't that seem like having our own Fire Hall on fire?Orillia was better off with its own police force with officers present on the streets instead of one cop in a cruiser.

Worse. The house cleaning election results attest to how fed up Oro-Medonte residents were with Hughes and that council. The current council is still working to resolve the problems they inherited.

Bullying and saber rattling like the big bad wolf in the kids 3 Pigs story. Well huff and puff Mr. Nuttall with your speculative benefits to the municipalities with even further intrusions into farmlands branded employment corridors which belong to the municipalities themselves to develop if and as they desire. The municipalities are afire and the water boiling if you choose to enter through the dirty political chimney. To mix story lines further, Are you feeling lucky punk?

The 2 ponds in Big Cedar were recently fully covered in green algae as they are every year. A couple days ago one was clearef. There's a sign in the field east of those ponds that cautions that the grounds are contaminated as it receives water that is pumped from the ponds. Makes sense that that contamination would migrate into Bass Lake. Testing should probably start there.
