LETTER: Encampment enforcement needed now

Thank you Andre for your very well written letter and opinion. I used to regularly visit the Kam RIver Park as part of my walking route and also to bring my grandchildren to feed the seagulls. Not only has it become a deplorable sight but the dwellers have made it clear that I am not welcome. I sympathize with these desperate people but allowing them to squat in our public parks and empty space leaving their garbage everywhere, is not the solution to homelessness.

Poor and lazy reporting. This is only a copy and paste from court documents. What happened here? Other than a name and a conviction this article gives no information about this story. Was it one victim or multiple victims? Were the victims known to him or random people, etc etc?? With the information provided and how long it went on it seems like there is a big and involved story to tell.

I'm hoping they use the empty lot and not the park. The lot would be more visible and hopefully safer. The park used to be part of my daily morning walks. Also I would sometimes bring my grandchildren there to see birds and watch the river enjoying nature. Both these things are no longer safe to do. It would be nice to get a safe park back for the public as it was an escape to nature in an urban setting.

It sure doesn't help the world that an anti-vaxxer is in charge of the U.S. health care system and now Trump wants an unqualified doctor to become the surgeon general. It will only get worse for the world while these lunatics run that country.

If anyone is organizing a protest of this ridiculous idea please broadcast it so I can attend. Our voices need to be heard.

I'd like to see dash cams on all school buses so everyone who commits this violation is caught on camera, heavier fines, and demerit points for first offence, suspension for repeat offence.

Thank you for your support of our country in cancelling your Arizona trip. I and the rest of my group cancelled our summer vacation to the States. I urge others to do the same. Explore Canada, Europe, Mexico, etc.

How lazy of a society that you don't have the energy to hold your brake pedal down for 15 seconds while a person walks across the street.

Or maybe you can stop for 15 seconds while they cross.

The landlord tenant system is seriously flawed. There is no other service or industry where a person doesn't pay what they owe and gets away with it so easily in a dragged out process.

Residential Tenancies Act is a major problem. You may as well go to the Twilight Zone to have your eviction case heard. Trying to get tenants out who are actively committing crimes, not paying rent, destroying the property is almost impossible. The tenant has all the rights. This needs to change.

This was similar to my question. I've missed something here or maybe the reporter neglected to ask Shelby to elaborate. Why is Fort WIlliam FIrst Nation "critical to moving this forward"? Nowhere does the article say what the affiliation the LPH property is to FWFN. Does anyone have an answer the reporter or Shelby did not provide? Also I hope the city is aware that costly environmental assessments will have to be done before this building is torn down and anything rebuilt. This could hold up any projects for a very long time. and be a can of worms. I wouldn't want the city to touch this property until the province has done all the necessary assessments and tear down and deems it fit for habitation.

The LTB is a ridiculous sham. Landlords have no rights. There's a housing crisis but landlord's want out of the business. The biggest incentive for landlords to stay or get in the business would be to have actual laws that protect their investments. Tenants trash places and don't pay rent and somehow they win. Don't think this lady's solution is to sell. I tried to sell legitimately and it still cost me legal fees, a dragged on case, and the loss of a buyer because the tenant's action to stay put and not want to leave. And they got free legal help. Also why should she have to sell; it's her home.

This does not fall under federal jurisdiction. The Residential Tenancies Act, which is provincial, gives all power to the tenant. The landlord (in this case DSSAB ) has no rights. Getting rid of tenants or giving them restrictions is next to impossible under this current law. The provincial government needs to act. This rogue tenant situation has gotten out of hand across the entire province.

Agreed. For years now while cycling or walking I've had to cross Arthur at Leland one lane at a time with cars whizzing by. For those who are booing it they are obviously people who don't walk or cycle. Do you realize how long it would take to walk around to James or Edward as compared to the 30 seconds you'd have to stop with your car. They are probably the people who speed up when I press the button to cross at crosswalks that I use now. Although most stop right away there are those few who just can't wait so speed up even faster. All these new crosswalks are very welcome but I'd like to see some more enforcement, tickets handed out and community service messages of the importance of stopping for pedestrians.

This has never been the motto of Canada Post. Perhaps you heard it on an American TV show? Also it wasn't that the workers were hardier before. As with any workplace safety of workers was not considered in days gone by. Injury was rampant at no cost to the workplace. Workers simply got hurt and dealt with it or couldn't work any longer and lost any means of income. Thankfully we live in modern times where any reputable workplace has safety protocols in place including Canada Post. I challenge you to walk around in ice and snow, slush, wind, rain, up and down stairs, over obstacles, chased by dogs, sworn at my customers, etc for 8 hrs every day. Let's see if you change your tune then on work safety.

LUCKY RRR, if you are comparing to the illegal Venezuela capture, there is no comparison. Wedding committed crimes in the US so it was legitimately wanted and should face justice there. His capture was a joint effort by the Mexican Police the RCMP and the FBI and international law was followed in his capture. The peaceful protests in Minnesota have nothing to do with this however if you asked any of those protesters I'm sure they'd all be happy this criminal was captured and will face justice. Do not put a slant on this that I am pro Madura. Justice should happen for him but by legal means not an illegal capture ordered by a rogue dictator from the US

This week photos were taken from my listed rental and then duplicated to create another ad listing it at much less. Obviously trying to get people to send a quick deposit not wanting to miss out on the deal. Scammers everywhere..beware!

My family member worked for a company that had a contract to service Ontario govt. properties. A few years ago those in Toronto decided to cut about 70% of their jobs in NWO and transfer positions to Toronto and Sudbury. Now they're scrambling to find new people to hire back. At a high cost the employees come here and travel roads they are terrified to travel and had no idea of the distances and conditions. They have no idea of the unique issues as well. It's as if the executives who make these decisions have never had a geography lesson or think that travelling to Muskoka is going way 'upnorth'. On another note I called a government ministry this week to find out its local office has been closed down and I wanted to speak to someone in person. The person on the phone didn't see my problem and told me the Sudbury office remains open so I could just go there. People in Southern Ontario seem to think we're a few hours drive away or they think we live near the Arctic.
