Oh PP, crawl in a den and stay there. These 1000 jobs were not anyone’s fault but Algomas own move to EAF. Not a surprise it’s happening, only sooner than expected. To blame left or right is silly and just dumb.
Understood doesn't mean 'in writing'. It sucks, but if you entered a contract and the market conditions change and makes your situation worse, that doesn't mean you can just void it.
I feel like the people who do this "studies" never actually use the roads they are changing. To remove two lanes and force all traffic to use one is such a joke in this area. While I understand the need for bike lanes, removing normal traffic lanes to facilitate the one or two bike that use that road is a waste of tax payer money. Now, when snow fills half those lanes and the city wont come and remove the banks, there with be 1 & 1/2 lanes. And to think that changing the signs from 60 to 50 is going to make any difference at all is silly. People will continue to drive at a comfortable speed. Whoever is in charge of these decisions around this city would be better suited as a Walmart Greeter.
The city needs to buy a cold in-place recycling machine. Stop contracting out to local orgs to do one street at a time year after year. Buy the plant and have a staff that fixes our own roads. Every year its the same stretches of road that fall apart. Grind that segment down and re-pave it.
I’m sorry, how much? The General Hospital was purchased in 2019 for $450k. It has done nothing but rot since the sale and the city paid TEN TIMES that cost!? Let me tell you about a bridge I have for sale…
What we need in politics is accountability. It’s easy for PP to trash talk JT and promise all the change in the world, but without holding these leaders accountable its just the same old song and dance. Maybe having their pension on the line will keep them true to their word? Dont meet your campaign promises? Thanks for your time, you failed no lifetime paycheck for you.
You're comment is completely off topic. Starlink, regardless of who owns it, is an amazing technology and is getting better all the time. Since the government of Canada and the other telecommunications companies continue to refuse to update Canadas infrastructure, leaving us with some of the worst national coverage on the planet, it's nice to have an alternative that actually serves people who aren't in a busy suburban area. Now, where they think it's going to cost almost $7k per person, that sounds ridiculous considering the dish is sub $1k, They must be factoring in travel to remote areas at that price. I've had my dish out here in Goulais for almost 2 years now and have zero complaints. Pay ~$150 a month and get 50-200mbps. Next best thing was cell and it was garbage speeds, when it decided to work.
@Lovethenorth - what exactly did he say that was unprofessional? I listened to the recording, nothing was said that I would consider unprofessional. Criticism isn't unprofessional.
I guess my question is this.. Who in the city was complaining about the current situation that prompted the city to even consider doing this work? When there were 2 lanes in each direction, everything was fine. Why have we decided " what we really need to do is slow down traffic at all these lights, make things more dangerous at intersections and waste tax money to add bike lanes when they aren't needed?" You don't need to put paint down to allow a bike to ride on the road. Before bike lanes existed they shared the road. Dumb, dumb, dumb.
@slim, right, but he didn't do construction, he changed use. I could see if he started to do massive renovations, sure, bring it to code. But to have the burden for a simple change of use seems a bit much. If it was safe for people to sit and drink in, it should be fine to walk in to buy a few groceries...
Given the reality of today’s world and continually increasing energy demands, it’s difficult to understand why additional capacity would be rejected. Energy demand is not trending downward, and if this community wants to grow and attract new industry, that capacity will be essential. If new businesses are considering operations here and sufficient capacity is not available, the resulting shortfall will either increase costs or limit growth altogether—potentially driving investment to other communities that are better prepared.
With the added traffic turning North on GNR, consideration should be given to a left turn after red. The left turn lane is backed up past the police station most days now and having a second turning light after the green would help alleviate the traffic.
For a roundabout you have a minimum diameter, which you wouldn't be able to fit at this intersection. It would be far cheaper to add a right turning lane going north and fix the traffic issues at that light. Drivers can't handle a stop light change in this town, this will blow their minds.
@CaringOne - I don't know many people who have a Nexus that don't also have a passport. You wouldn't be able to use it for air travel without a passport, and that is the biggest benefit. I use my Nexus because I don't need to carry my passport and saves me a ton of time in security lines at airports.
This is exactly how you kill downtowns.A 100-year-old building that safely operated as a bar for decades gets shut down for trying to become a small neighbourhood grocery store — with no structural work done — because it can’t economically meet modern accessibility rules designed for new construction. The result? Fewer services, more empty storefronts, and less real-world accessibility for seniors and nearby residents. If our rules make it easier to keep a bar open than a grocery store, the problem isn’t the owner — it’s the system.
