Shoemaker is way off the mark on this one. The long list of who he seems to be obsessed at NOT offending is long and yet the monarchy that is on our currency, government documents (Kings printer), our licence plates, and is proudly displayed in schools, fire halls, police stations, to name a few.He just exclaimed in the past week he was going to fight on the federal level to dictate physician recruitment yet wants the Soo to be what, exactly? Be a mayor, do that job, and stop fighting this ridiculous nonsense and taking your private disagreement you seem to have with the one councillor especially who calls you out on your “…”. He acts like a spoiled brat who didn’t get his way!

Working in a house with kids with well paying jobs, it is scary to think of the food insecurities in households of fixed income, pensioners, and lower income. Here is something that the local Social Service agencies should increase and push for…self help for some food.Being raised in a hardworking, blue collar family, I remember backyards of both the family home and cottages to be full of gardens. Though we don’t have a long season with our Northern climate, I don’t ever remember having a potato, carrot, tomato or berry from a grocery store growing up.We have a small garden even now and I’ve got both raspberry and strawberries in my backyard today. Growing up with a great deal of family cooking, it is what allowed our ancestors who were all new to Canada, to thrive. But one loaf of bread that’s $3 at minimum? Pick up a big bag of flour for under $30 at the wholesale place that’s open to the public and make more than 100 loaves. Something to think about!

Ontario needs to get with the times and stop the switching. Keep it on daylight savings time.

Too many semis that are being operated by those who have not got valid training and are careless. Get these drivers off the road that have zero respect for driving the large vehicles that when in an accident, result in horrible injuries or fatalities.

Another huge thank you to those who voted Liberal n to hold on to cheap child care, child tax credit, basically all the free money programs that are anything but free.Canada is in trouble with this and it’s going to go fromBad to worse soon.

We don’t fund the association directly. But don’t think for a second that our taxes are not funneled into nonsense the DTA has shoved down our throats by the pressure they place on council.Council is wasting our money by forgetting arm’s length and conflict of interest. Get a certain someone to stay in her lane and stop trying to direct downtown decisions to further her business. Too many sneaky business people involved in downtown who are using their own power for personal gains (and that of their new spouses).

There is an interesting fact being a hospital in a community that is under serviced by certain medical specialties. Many here don’t realize that when we lost a certain cardiologist a few years back that the story was well spun into how now the city was short. But the hospital which had that salary accounted for in its budget was skipping all the way to the bank because there’s this wonderful thing most know about in general terms: locums. You know … the specialists who don’t actually live here, but make shorter trips to communities like ours and work as a locum. Guess where that money comes from? Just remember that the hospital loves to play both sides when they cry amongst all of us at the dire physician shortages in certain specialties. Yet that money doesn’t have to come directly from the hospital’s budget - this is where locums are different. Sure the community benefits but the suits at the boardroom tables of the hospitals love it. But where’d that “budgeted” money go?

No kidding! While I disagree with money going to private places like you’ve mentioned, the DTA fought hard to get the concrete jungle. 7 days a week and the only hours I’ll ever spend at the Market is the one day it’s open and likewise, the concrete playground is a place I will never bring my kids unless there is a big event. Every other day the downtown is full of nothing else but crime that I stay away from.I won’t even walk at lunch anymore. The merchants want business? Maybe open hours that people will go!

The issue starts with the abuse of our Emergency rooms. The definition of the word Emergency is sadly not in the vocabulary of many who attend. People are clogging up the wait times unnecessarily. It costs Ontario far more to give someone antibiotics through an ER visit than a community clinic typed visit. The financial pressures will never feel as urgent to anyone living in a big city (most likely Southern Ontario) because they have family doctors, walk in clinics, specialists, etc. and all can be utilized in normal timeframes. Here, the impact is closing small hospitals, etc. what exactly is being done here to help put on the pressure?

How about like on my street, we clear a good part of it and be kind neighbors when we can? I know there are a few teens in my area who have helped out neighbors and have open arrangements to help them out on occasion.

Nope. Deal with the problem people and don’t punish normal people just watching and not being obnoxious.

I was a spectator (not at that time on Sunday) forfamily members kids games and let’s just say I witnessed mothers yelling and screaming in the stands saying some nasty things to other parents in the stands and to kids on the ice as well. The women were the ones yelling more.

Yes to this! Ans to the commenter below that it may not be their vehicle? Then be smarter about who you loan your vehicle to.

What is another tricky subject is that wherever I’ve waitressed, you actually have to pay a percentage of the sales at your tables into the tip pool which is then divided among kitchen staff (dishwashers, hostesses, cooks, etc.). Yes they all have roles to play and of course great food helps a great tip and unfortunately bad food can also result in the waitress being penalized by not receiving a good tip if any at all. Then they do still have to pay into the tip pool even though some tables left nothing. Tipping does not need to supplement wages anymore. Most servers in good restaurants easily take home $70,000 with tips and wages combined. Most I knew didn’t ever claim all tips (maybe around half). So they are even making more compared to those working and paying taxes on all their wages. I admit tipping has gotten out of hand and I feel pressured to pay high % whether deserved or not.

A fast food (burgers / pizza) drive thru thing with these tips is that hey - I am in the drive thru for a reason. Quick, grab and go and I want to reach out of my vehicle window with my phone and tap and not press all the buttons. Fast food in general does not warrant a tip and if you want to round up a bit - great! Sitting down where I can have everything brought to me then yes of course, a great tip is our norm. I worry who these fast food tips on the debit machine go to.

Stop with the attacks against Council member Caputo. Glad you must has looked up some medical info along with your earlier Asthma comments to learn that Aspirin can help during a heart attack. You have over generalized helpful vs. life saving medical assistance which can save a life. Be glad you don’t have any immediate family members who have an anaphylactic allergy. Your comments show you know little about the seriousness of it.
