These aren't neighbourhood streets though... Imperial is debatable, but dropping the speed limits on Victoria and Clair is just going to make people more aggressive as they are annoyed at the low speed limits.
Nobody should feel unsafe accessing a public space. Squeaky clean? Ideally yes, but not just for "elite taxpayers". What makes a good community is nobody putting others at risk and to make it great is everyone contributing and not leaching off of others.
We can debate speed cameras for this, but I don't think I've ever seen one good argument for why red light cameras are just a cash grab. "I didn't have time to safely stop for a light as it was turning from yellow to red" is one I've seen a few times, but all this means is that you weren't paying attention and/or were driving too fast. I would legitimately like to hear even a single reason as to why red light cameras can be bad.
Not to discount what this person and their family went through, but doctors aren't perfect. They give the best diagnosis that they can with the information they have. Throw this lawsuit out and don't waste anyone's time with it.
"after a review of private land submissions, staff determined there were no suitable submissions to bring forward."What a shocker. Who could have seen that coming?
“Rife told the committee she understands the purposes of bylaws, that they are a good thing and protect residents, property values and communities from harm.“(But) they should never prevent us from doing good,” she said."Excellent quote!
Finally! Basic, real-world financial literacy has been a gaping hole in what kids learn in school. I've met way too many people who have never been taught even the concepts of budgeting or saving for retirement. This curriculum update is very welcome.
This is fantastic! Rooftops, especially commercial buildings, are so incredibly underutilized. So much land that the sun is beating down on all day, every day that can be put to good use. Roof top gardens like this are such a better use of this space than just letting it sit and get hot. These and solar panels should be on every building (at least all those flat-topped commercial buildings).
Pay your fair share of taxes. You profit from your work? You pay your taxes. End of discussion. All of us regular Joes do it. Shouldn't be any tax breaks for corporations.
The automatically applied tips on "large parties" at some places are also terrible. Taking away the option to not tip, usually a higher percentage than 15% and always after tax, and often times not explicitly stated when you go to pay (possibly allowing you to double tip) are all insulting to customers.
I will never understand how it is okay for someone making three times the average wage in Guelph (funded entirely by those same people who make the average wage in Guelph) to get a raise at all let alone a gigantic ten percent raise...
The only things that this guy cares about are his continued very high, tax-payer funded salary, his pension, and power. The Guelph Police motto/mission statement is "Pride. Service. Trust." and this guy hasn't served, he's lost the people's trust, and his pride is placed in himself. This article documents two convictions and two other accusations of violence - a proven track record of what you do not want someone given power to do. If this guy really "now accepts “full” responsibility" for his actions then he will voluntarily give up his police job and move on to something where he won't be triggered and put other people in harms way at tax-payers' expense.
"a brother or sister in need" also includes children. To be clear, we absolutely should help homeless people, but that doesn't mean letting them pose a danger to children or expose children to things that they shouldn't experience.
Yup, mostly junk in my mailbox too. There's no need for delivery every day of the week. I never rely on Canada Post to be a fast shipping service anyways.
Definitely could use context. For those who have used the past decade or so to flip homes and make a quick (and rather significant with how fast things have appreciated) buck, this definitely applies. But for people or families that have bought a home and plan to live in a home the rest of their lives even if they move, then home ownership is probably more about being in control of your own space and having independence.
