Orillia museum's 'future at risk' in wake of city demands: official

OMAH is not a business. It's an educational institution . The City funds the Rec Centre, the Library, and the Leacock home. Do they want an Art Gallery/Museum or not? The vast majority of the cost of renovating the Sir Samuel Steele Building was covered by fundraising , along with a generous grant from the Stephen Harper government. Countless hoirs of volunteer work go into it. The gallery provides educational and recreational programs for Orillia and area that can be accessed by people of all incomes. If the city withdraws its support, this will be gone.

Wow! Let me respond. First of all, your putting quotes around the word "barriers". A threshold of 2 inches is enough to stop a wheelchair. "Most people with disabilities travel with companions". I travel with my quadriplegic husband who uses an electric wheelchair. He's 78 and I'm 75 and still feeling the effects of having been hit by a car two years ago. Third, yes, there are home deliveries, if you can afford them. Try paying for DoorDash on a disabilty pension. ( Not us. We're OK) However, sometimes people would like to be able to leave their own four walls. My huge appreciation to the facilities that have put the thought and effort into accessibility. Your dismissive, "Let them eat cake," attitude shows a lack of awareness. You seem to have no idea of the effort put in every day to just do normal things when you have a disability.
Community safety zones are a start, but will do very little without additional enforcement methods such as speed humps, slow traffic pylons, or photo radar. Ask anyone living on Line 15 North.
Hilarious, guilt-enducing, and encouraging all at once.
When we bought our home in Orillia in 1979, we were required ( by the bank, I think) to get a survey done before we could get a mortgage. This would prevent problems like this. We found out that the back corner of our old wooden garage was about a foot over the line. It was never an issue because it was so small. Funny story: two neighbours of ours were in a dispute. Neighour A complained that neighbour B was trimming trees on A's property. B got a survey done. The property line ran through A's garage about four feet in from B's side of the wall. These things happen, and it usually isn't conscious theft. That said, the poster shouldn't have to pay taxes on land they can't use.
I don't normally vote Conservative, but I agree with this petition. The registering of mass candidates is an attempt to interfere with the legitimate process of an election. This tactic could just as easily be used by right-wingers to push an anti-immigrant or anti-gay agenda.
