Zoning amendment request fuels Costco speculation

The pessimist in me says city/council will deny the zoning change. The optimist in me thinks of the additional revenue the city as a whole will garner. Many of the people from surrounding communities will come here, staying in hotels, eating in restaurants...making a weekend of a Costco trip.

I am a bit confused how a lease arrangement has anything to do with overall reconciliation. I am not being rude. I just don't see the connection.

Yeah! Another light on Arthur St.

Why do we always need a study or hiring of consultants. Call Kenora and discuss what they did. Call other municipalities. It's government money so it's likely already public.Vet their contracts through legal, adjust for our needs and then post a contract tender online and the highest, qualified bidder wins.

I can't stress this enough......basic parking lot! Look at Delaney Arena. The maintenance is a nightmare AND it reduced parking. No one marvels at how nice a parking lot looks but they will complain and remember when there isn't a spot to occupy.

I am still struggling to understand why you need to register your boulevard garden. Only thought is that they have an official list that they can police.

I appreciate this task being conducted. However, why not complete this in the spring/summer so our city looks good, avoids sand blowing around etc. when citizens are outside and increased tourism occurs.I want to believe there is a reason for the timing not stated in the article.

I'm assuming that's a typo with an extra zero on the 4hr and all day prices!

Further, many people got retro pay that pushed them over due to the Bill 124 fiasco.

What is the point of registering them? For what purpose? So the city can show a list of boulevard gardens? Fine people that didn't register theirs? Absolutely absurd. Just let people do it.

My family is fortunate enough to not have had to apply for the program. However, I am baffled as to how they can sue the government. At its simplicity, they got free money and are suing to get more free money because it was halted. It was a trial program. It has the word "Pilot" in it. There was never a promise that this would be a forever solution.

Is the expectation to add another set of lights to the so called expressway?

As a non-smoker, it has always baffled me how smokers don't see their butts as litter. Many smokers would never throw their garbage on the ground but have no issue with tossing their butts wherever. I am generalizing as I know it's not all smokers, but I bet it's the majority.

We answered the question. There is no traffic impact. Why do we need to conduct another study?Climate change impact......really? We can't just assume that they aren't open as long as before. Not that hard. Next thing they will suggest is to reduce the number of rinks even further. What a waste of time and money.

Not even remotely connected or related at all.Someone opening a retail space is not dictated by city council.

I admit to not knowing all the details around this. However, at the Marina, we have an old rail car that used to allow you to walk through it. It seems mostly closed up now. Why not do the same with this? After it's in place, painting every few years is all it would take to maintain it. Hell, get a bunch of high school kids to paint it as part of their mandatory volunteer hours.

Honest question here - how is there a need for a paid duty increase? I thought paid duty was when an external entity hired police services. If the paid duty amount doesn't cover the costs, the fees need to go up.Again, I could be missing something...or many things.

Society has changed. The YOA was not designed for crimes such as this. Criminals have found loopholes by using youth. The YOA or the judicial system needs to change whereby adult crimes by youth are charged as adult crimes are the new norm, not a special request.

I am not saying we need to shutter people away but situated here places the potential future eyesore right along our largest economic centre. If we have people suffering from addiction and/or mental health and they cause a stir by harassing people, it will have an immediate impact on tourist dollars. People won't want to come here to shop. If they do, they will avoid the intercity area.I recognize that I suffer from NIMBY at times, and live nowhere close to this location but without a perfect location.....there must be a better one than this. Historically, this city has given away its high potential spots for social service. Look at the underpass and riverwalk area behind the train station. No sane person would purposely walk down there.Liquor/beer, tourism/waterways....3 strikes against this location. If I owned a business, my security costs are likely going up.

This defies logic. We have snowbanks higher than your request. Vehicles can park in spots that would also block line of sight.
