I am not interested in any of my Orillia tax dollars supporting the YMCA until they reconcile with our community after they walked away from the millions of dollars raised and decades of volunteerism. Unacceptable.
I live on a locally designated road near downtown and have seen a dramatic increase in speed and volume. Traffic calming is about reducing speeds and short cutting on local and collector roads. Reduced limits is an inexpensive and effective measure. You could keep the higher limits on the arterial routes.
I think council and staff need to go back to the County and the OPP and bring them back to reality. On top of all of this, we are now spending our own dollars to augment social services when it is supposed to be managed by the county. This is totally out of control. There is zero chance that the electorate will accept this. We are now at the half way point in this term of council FYI...
100% agree West Street Makes Sense!! For all the same reasons we fought for the Rec centre. Too many to list here. Thanks for letting us know that we have an opportunity to influence the decision!!!
These parks are great assets but also expensive to build and maintain. I think it is fair to ask non residents to help pay for the waterfront facilities through user/ parking fees.
I generally like Doug but I am a little offended that he would position this as a offset to the carbon tax. Maybe for the 1 percenters who are not receiving the rebates. I hate it when they insult our intelligence for cheap political points. 3 billion dollars is an absurd amount of money.
A few little known facts about ev's. They are one third heavier than icev's resulting in accelerated road wear and associated costs and they do not contribute to gas tax. Gas tax goes to maintaining roads. When is that shoe going to fall?
As far as engaging the electorate goes the other reality is that people are too busy and distracted with every day life to attend meetings and read agendas. Some councilors don't even read the agendas LOL. Thank-you to Orillia Matters for providing this forum. We can only hope that Council is paying attention as well.
It is annoying to me when "Orillia" Matters publishes stories unrelated to Orillia with headlines like "local man" or like this article. Feels like click bait. Its annoying.
I was in NYC this summer. Rode transit. Walked 70km and never once felt uncomfortable or unsafe. As it is now I would not walk alone anywhere in Downtown Orillia or Barrie after dark. My son lives in Downtown Toronto and it is worse. Something has to give here.
