The big difference between in Harris and Walz and Trump and Vance to me is the way Harris and Walz will campaign. I believe Harris and Walz will be happy campaigner, thus giving hope to voters, whereas Trump and Vance will be doom and gloom.Doug Lewis

Congratulations to Mayor Don McIssac! The Champlain statue is back where it belongs. Please forget about the "shrink wrap and a tarp", that will just perpetuate the issue. If in the future someone can come up with explanatory wording to which all parties can agree let's deal with that in the future.Doug LewisDoug Lewis

What the detractors fail to understand about the Conservatives in Simcoe North, both federally and provincially, is that we work at it all the time. That is how over the years we have established and maintained a stronghold. It doesn't just happen overnight. In addition, we have strong leadership provincially and federally.Compare that to what happened in Ottawa this week.Doug Lewis

As a former Progressive Conservative member for 14 years I find it amusing that NDP MPPs are following the Premier around Ontario and attending his media conferences in order to find anybody to talk to. Why don't they build their own crowds?Doug Lewis

I don't live in the City of Orillia but I have followed Orillia politics since moving to Orillia in 1969. Rather than being responsible for a "loss of accountability" I believe the ward system provides more accountability than the alternative being suggested. The "at large" system which Orillia had before allowed one particular councillor to benefit from "name familiarity" and get re-elected. The ward system lets people in the ward make the decision as to who they want to represent their area.Doug Lewis

Tyler: Your article about Dick captures the essence of the man in every way. He was a "leader" in every way! Kim and I send our condolences to Wendy and his family.Doug Lewis

Orillia's experience with the Simcoe/Muskoka YMCA hasn't been all that pleasant. Funds raised locally for the land, building and facilities on Peter Street in Orillia were swallowed up by the Simcoe/Muskoka YMCA General Fund when the premises were sold a few years ago.Any community dealing with the Simcoe/Muskoka YMCA would do well to keep their hands on their wallets. It would have been helpful if the report had said which side of West Street. That would help drivers determine whether or not to use Fitton's Road.Doug Lewis

Too bad we have to read all the way to the bottom of Mr Bursztyn's rant to find out he is a former NDP candidate.Doug Lewis

Wendy will leave a tremendous legacy of "doing things" when she leaves the Community Development Corporation. Just think of how many new businesses had the benefit of her leadership at the CDC. She did it all with a friendly but businesslike way of doing things. Orillia and District has benefited in so many ways.Godspeed Wendy!Doug Lewis

I have followed Basil's efforts as Warden through the media for the past two years. In my opinion he has done a terrific job as Warden and I am confident will continue to do so.Doug Lewis

Previous YMCA of Simcoe/Musoka have raised money in Orillia purportedly for YMCA facilities.Years later when the premises were sold the funds were entirely devoted to the Simcoe/YMCA premises in Barrie, i.e. Camp Sumerland, and the Y building on Peter Street North.Don't fall for this one again!Doug Lewis
Congratulations Adam. International Trade is a hot topic these days and you will certainly be atthe centre of things.Doug Lewis
