Poll finds 'strong support' for mandatory A/C in public facilities, rentals in Ontario

@bigdaddy, there was a rent cap until 2018 when Doug Ford removed it. It was set at 2.5% increase each year.Once it was removed and new builds/leases could be for any amount, rents sky rocketed.People were getting evicted and the rent on some units tripled.Get a new government who actually cares for their constituents instead of focusing on booze and maybe we'll get some where

We have neighbors who let them off right at the property line, which puts them less than 8 feet from our house. That's way to close. And they let them off at all times of the night, sometimes as late as midnight. There is absolutely no reason for that.Subdivisions are being laid out with smaller and smaller lots and letting fireworks off in someone's yard is getting more and more hazardous.

@willnotcomply because that's when the signs of Autism regression become the most noticeable. It has absolutely NOTHING to do with the MMR vaccine. That claim has died a million deaths with the Andrew Wakefield study that was discredited. Vaccines cause adults and healthy populations, they do NOT cause autism

How about looking at the fact that Ford spends the least amount money on health care than any other province or territory in the country. 2.5 million (and growing) people without a primary care physician. The number of international students has decreased over the last couple of years because they can no longer afford to come here. You absolutely not blame everything on immigration

I'm sorry but if the OPP says 'stay off the area roads" (which did NOT change after 3pm), that trumps your reservation policy. The restaurant absolutely should have given the customer the option to either book on another day or her money back.To compare themselves to something like a Leafs game is ridiculous, especially when another restaurant with a ticketed event CLOSED that night because of the weather. The owners should be ashamed of themselves. No meal is worth someone's life. That's what could have happened that day. That's why the OPP stated everyone should stay home that day

Her son was there and easily could have driven her.And she can't get a doctor up here unless she derosters from her doctor in Toronto and registers with Health Connect. That's why she hasn't found a doctor in 25 years.Ambulance calls are dispatched in order of priority of need. Severe pain isn't seen as life-threatening, so she wasn't top priority. When I broke my leg, it was at least 45 minutes before an ambulance came. Was I in pain? Yes, but I also knew that it wasn't a compound fracture (no bone sticking out) and it wasn't life-threatening, so I wasn't a priority. I've also had a gallbladder attack in the middle of the night that made me almost pass out BUT I had someone who could drive me to the ER instead of calling 911. I had surgery 7 hours later to remove it. I'm sorry she was in pain BUT she also had a solution to her problem

Why is this developer allowed to do whatever they want?It seems like they are allowed to skirt the bylaws and just build whatever they feel like in all their planned developments. Everytime their name comes up lately it's because they've done something wrong. Why is no one stopping them? Are they in Doug Ford's pocket? Are they friends with all the mayors in whatever township they are working in?Someone needs to step in and put their foot down and hold them accountable for the damage they are causing

I hate when I see kids that are 6, 7 or 8 years old who get absolutely crazy when there iPad is taken away!We don't allow kids to be 'bored' anymore and they absolutely need to be.Everything doesn't need to be handed to them They need to be left to their own devices (not electronics) every once in a while so they can figure out how to use their imagination to do things that aren't based on a screen.

The man who panders to his millionaire buddies? Who destroys health care, education and public sector jobs?Do you have blinders on? Just because he's talking tough right now, do not forget that he was all for Trump not that long ago.Ford can't be trusted. He changes direction more than he changes his underwear.

Methinks the mayor is trying to make himself look good to cover over all his recent bad publicity lately. 'A spoon full of sugar' and all that...

@JM, Tell me you've never worked in a school where kids were passing out or vomiting because it got so hot inside without telling me.Little guys are more prone to the effects of heat. Special needs kids (you know, the ones who attend school who wear heavy plastic splints or sit in wheel chairs all day) over heat SUPER fast.A/C should definitely be in schools, the staff deserve it as well. And leave the windows open at night?!?! Really?!?! Talk about a security issue. Most schools don't even have windows that open anymore.40 years ago, it didn't hit 40 degrees in May and June. We actually had spring. It didn't start to get on the warmer side until the last week of school and then it would only be around 23 or 24

Putting close to a thousand homes in that area is just a horrible idea.Does Orillia need housing? Absolutely but urban sprawl like this? There's got to be some alternative. That area is beautiful right now because it IS full of trees but strip that back and put that many houses and no one wins. The environment loses, the current home owners in the area lose...Just a bad idea all around

There have been studies done that have shown that fans aren't effective in super hot weather.People who are on a fixed income may not have the extra money to buy a fan or a/c unit (portable). There is a fund that people can apply for if they are on assistance for these items but it's not a guarantee that they will be approved. If there's a limit to how cold it can get in a building, shouldn't the same apply to the heat? It can be just as deadly in a shorter amount of time and there are fewer ways to cool off then there are ways to keep warm

Which is exactly what they should have. You know they are safe and know where they are at all times!!

How many times are they going to bring this idea up?There's skating rinks in Orillia. The city sits on a lake, they could make one there (either at Couchching or Tudhope park)But to even think of spending tens of thousands of dollars on one is ridiculous. It was decided before that it wasn't a good idea. Just let it go already

The need to be ready to hire older workers than because Gen-Z workers won't want to work in a factory setting. They'll complain about the conditions/heat/hours!And are they actually expanding or just going to go back to what they previously had? I can't see them getting bigger. Their lot size does limit what they can do.Either way, it's a good thing for Orillia. I honestly hope they find the workers they need for the positions available. If my body wasn't falling apart, I'd apply there in a heartbeat

8-5 is a difference of 3 stories. That's a pretty big difference in height. There's no reason to dwarf other homes in the area.Yes, there's a need for housing but not when it's in a mainly home filled neighborhood.

Chances are, they won't hear from her.If it was her dad? He'd be doing everything he could to be helping but Jill doesn't care about her constituents. To bad she got elected again

If Midland and Collingwood can offer free downtown parking, then there's absolutely no reason why orillia can't. $3/hour is a big reason why I don't shop in downtown Orillia

How are you getting away with less than one parking space per apartment? And I'm guessing none of these are going to be affordable or geared to income?Tiny apartments, next to no parking and I'm going to guess at least $1700+ utilities and condo fees a month
